Hey all. New here. I am picking up a 47' merc 8 four door this Saturday.

I've been a lurker for a few years now. I had a nice 50' f1 all original that I had to let go a few years back. Now that life is better I am picking up a 47 merc . Pretty happy. I went and looked at it last Saturday and bought it. I was going to have it towed home but decided on a nice 2 hr country drive home will be good. Its 95% original. The engine is a 53' merc flathead not a 47'. I will drive it as is for a few months then up grade the driveline. I have neuropathy pretty bad so working a clutch is not fun anymore. Anyway, thats all I got. Thanks and glad to be here.

Thank you pprather. Here is a pic of when I got home. I wish I would have recorded the ride home. It was a beautiful foggy morning ride through the country.

 

I need some help if anyone can. I was told this has a 53' motor and I need a 12v conversion kit. The kit is either a 5/8 v belt ot 3/8. The belt on the generator read 1/2 x 54. Which pulley size do I want and which new belt do I get? Thanks. It is a flathead v8
