Those prices aren't bad. I'm sure the 6.50x19 will mount on a Model A wheel. It may look a little round and balloony but that can be cool. I think Lucas is an old brand. My UNIVERSALs are the Cokers. I live on 2 miles of rough rocky road. Because of the way Coker sizes their whitewall width I have torn the black overlay off if every set I bought. I'll never buy Coker write walls again. That said I have never had a structure failure on a Coker tire and they have p***ed the test of thousands of miles in pile of rocks I live in.
For what it's worth, that's how the tie rod looks on my roadster. It hasn't given me one bit of trouble in three years of driving.
Thanks, Six Ball! Appreciate the first hand experience. Joey! Thanks, brother. I have a tendency to triple check my work whenever Nora comes out to chat with me while I’m wrenching.
Hey, Ryan; https://www.blockleytyre.com/ type of tire : crossply 5.50x16 -> 6.50x19 (no 17") 119 -> 265 You don't pay VAT. Don't know iffen this'll help. I've seen the block tread up close, they're nice. Marcus...
Windshield mock-up. Spencer is loving it. Gonna take some figuring out and fitting, but I think it looks right.
So we’ll be on pause for a week while we take a family vacation to New England. If there’s anything or anyone hot rod or car related we should visit in southern Maine, near North Conway NH, or in Vermont, let us know! Going to be tough to step away from this Jalopy for a week right when we were hitting our stride…
Just walked in the door. That was an amazing, rambling family vacation through New England. Time to get serious on this jalopy. BTW… I WILL do the Mt. Washington Auto Road in a prewar car some day. That drive is special.
This Dennis guy is finestkind. Spencer is absolutely over the moon with the package. From the wrapping to the STOP light, patches, hat, shirt and wonderful heartfelt letter… SOAPSTONE!… we spent some quality time going through it all. Spencer is working on one of his world famous ‘thank you’ notes, and said Dennis is definitely getting so many ‘shout outs’ on YouTube. His heart is full. Thank you, friend!
Absolutely outstanding! That really put a smile on my face! So very cool that Spencer enjoyed the contents of that very special box of goodies! Right on Ryan and Spencer and Nora and Samantha, what a great family, that is enjoying life, on a grand scale! Thanks for posting and sharing these great photographs! Thanks from Dennis!
To all of the rest of the H.A.M.B. Universe, that didn't get to see what the special box, wrapping paper looked like, before it was opened! It was truly a pleasure to put a smile on Spencer's face, with a cool box made just for him! You are very welcome Spencer! Just a heads up to all of you, if you are going to spoil somebody else's kid, do it with style, and make the effort, to really make it special for them ! Just sayin !
Looking good, I'm working on a 29 Buick right now with my son. Working to make it the tow rig for the 26 speedster. Like you I'm working outside with no garage on a serious budget. The other day I had Alex dismantle all the trim so we could get a working door handle and ended up finding what I believe is the original flyer for the radio installed in the car dated 1936. I like that the Buick is green, I'll be able to park in spaces "for green vehicles only"
Man, that's fantastic! These early cars are really approachable for younger kids. They can get right up in there and wrench. I have a soft spot for Buicks, too. And working without a garage is only an impediment if you let it be. I let it be last night... I wasn't up for laying in a puddle in the dark swarmed by mosquitoes!
In '29 was the Buick head still part of the cylinders and bolted to the crankcase? Is the starter & generator the same ***embly. I helped a guy with a '26 and it was very interesting.
Mifflinburg! spent a weekend there last year. Cool little town with way more to do and see than we expected. Of course you have to stop at Rusty Rail Brewing. Buggy museum tour was absolutely fantastic and something any HAMBer would like. Got the dog out for some hikes at Raymond Winter State Park.. really peaceful patches of old growth hemlock. Nearby we went to Jack*** Brewing which was very dog friendly. After Jack*** we hiked Dale’s Ridge and saw the property. Cool little area you live in! Ed
Ed! We are pretty blessed here. Next time you’re in the area, feel free to reach out. If you happened by the H***enplug Covered Bridge, the brick farmhouse on the north side of Buffalo Creek is our place.
The head is separate as are the cylinder walls! Starter and generator are separate with the dist being driven off the back of the generator. After being raised with T's and A's this is a big coupe. 129 inch wheelbase compared to a T at 100. The motor is a big 6 at 309 ci I just wish there was an OD or I could change gearing. Guess I just take it slow. I'm trying to get it going in time for a period camp trip which should be a blast with a cutoff year of 35.
Bugged out of work early to have a few hours to wrench on the Jalopy. That… didn’t work out as planned. I did get 40 mins though and was able to put the front end in for the first time. It’ll need to come out to install the cast crank guide that also centers the U-bolts correctly. That hasn’t even shipped from the supplier yet. (Learning lessons about certain suppliers…) These V8 shocks like up almost perfectly. I’ll need to drill two holes to mount them. Are these adjustable? If we call these ‘37 shocks, they’ll be the ‘newest’ component on the car.
I wish I had all of those back that I tossed because we though tubes were cool and these were no good.
I’m still trying to figure these out, but they seem like an almost direct bolt up. One pair has center-to-center bolt hole spacing that’s just a little longer than the other pair. The “short” pair is a perfect match to the Model A frame holes. Arms are slightly different. They all are smooth and have good resistance in both directions but there’s some variation in the amount of resistance. One arm when centered isn’t in line with the others. And… I think these are adjustable, but I haven’t found the info on that yet. I think they’re a good, period solution… especially considering what Model A shocks are going for! Spencer is still on high from Dennis’s care package. I’ll be sewing some patches that he included on Spence’s hot rod coat tonight.
