Looks like you have all the “right stuff”! The Y block is an interesting and different choice for the power plant.
Looking forward to seeing this one come together…

Thanks… the y block wasn’t my first choice but I was perusing a local farmers auction near me and this was a listing. All it said was y block ford. So I figured I’d bid on it. It bid up to $65… yes $65. So I snagged it. When I went to pick it up it looked cleaner then it did in the pics and I found a reman tag stuck to the side. Come to find out it is fully rebuilt!! So it moved to first in line for the the roadster!! Don’t think I’ll find a deal like that again.

Nice project. I’ve got a Yblock with the truck housing modified for a T-5 TKO in my 32. If you’d like my thoughts, send me a PM.

I’d open that y block up and check the center cam bearing/oil hole alignment/etc. there’s a number of potential ***embly issues and new parts issues you should check. Far easier than in the car, pulling a cam with those tappet lifters.

^^^^^ I second that recommendation, great engine with some quirks . Drivers side head gasket MUST be installed correctly or you will have overheating issues

I agree with you guys. The plan is to tear into it. Going to change the cam and springs any way which would be a good time to check all the little things. Thanks for your all input though. Also going to put a trip carb set up on there as well, currently have a Fenton but might want to get a Edelbrock if I can find one.

Both the Fenton and Edelbrock have inferior performance versus the factory 1956-57 (especially 57) 4 barrel Manifold. If you're after performance, that's the way to go, otherwise the tri-power certainly looks better! I picked up an Edelbrock intake for a 1956 T Bird I'm doing but I'm going to be going with the 1957 Intake for the power gains since I'm building it as a circa-1957 street machine with a Tremec 5 speed replacing the factory 3spd manual. :)

Yup read that article it’s pretty cool that he did that. Not necessarily looking for peak performance with mine and love the look of the trips not running a hood on this car so I the engine has to look good. Thanks for the input!! Please keep it coming. I need all the help I can get.
