Hello guys. I’m excited to say I’m picking up my model a this weekend after years of searching and saving. I wanted your opinions on several things. The car needs the typical Lower patch panels. Also it seems the subrails have been removed for square tubing, as the older pictures of the car still have the subrails but the newer ones don’t. End goal is a 3 inch chop, on a 32 frame, with a blown FE. The rest will be figured out as I go. But I wanted the opinion of good ol’ hotrodders of the forum of several things which are: -how’d I do? Seems like a solid uncut body for what I can find on the east coast. I feel it’s an honest body with typical lower rust for 100 year old car. - What subrails should I get? Replace with originals or I heard they make nice subrails for a model a going on a deuce frame? - what is the brace running from the quarter window to the bottom of the door? Do they make lower pieces for them or should I just fab up new corners as these ones seem a little rusty, you can kind of see the brace on the interior photo. -any tips on trailering it home? Strap the body to the frame or put it in the bed of the truck? I want to keep the body as stable and unflexible as possible? The current owner has x braced the inside of the coupe. Sorry for the huge post. I’m pretty fresh out of the womb to the hotrod world. Thanks for the help!
Model A bodies fit nicely in the bed of a truck. A couple straps and it’s a secure way to haul. Then put the ch***is on the trailer. I recommend reading any and all threads on the HAMB you can find about highboy Model A’s, and ask us questions about particular topics BEFORE you start cutting or buying stuff. We can hopefully save you frustration and money.
Yeah it’s actually a really nice frame, it’s new Riley’s auto frame with brakes, and all new suspension. I may just end up using it as it would be more economical than using a 32 frame
Thanks for the advice. I was hoping it would fit in the bed. I will definitely keep searching the Hamb. The forums I have read so far have been extremely helpful.
