Been a long time coming! I have a ‘28 coupe, A frame. ‘39 top loader, open drive shaft and a ‘51 f1 rear end. ‘46 59ab with sharp heads and intake with dual Stroms. I’m getting a pretty fair amount of smoke out of the breather. Is this something expected or an indication of a problem?
Blow by. Add a PCV to suck the crankcase vapors and the breather will become an inlet rather than an exhaust pipe.
You are going to get responses from "it's normal" to "prepare yourself for immenent engine failure". What is your oil consumption?
Thank you! The charm of the smoke and smell is hard to beat. Just looking to make sure it’s not unusual. this is my first flat 8. Have had several 4s and knew what was expected. I can see the photos I post. I’ll do some reading. Thank you again.
Never seen one that didn't have a little blowby. The PCV valve recommended by Billy is a big benefit to the engine's long term health. Most will burn a little oil too. No sweat... just drive the hell out of it and keep the oil fresh and at the full mark.
Yep, pics work now. Run a compression test on it. That will tell you more about the condition of the old flathead.
