Hello Greetings..I have a 56 Mercury Monterey 4dr sedan...sled. I dropped my 351M Engine in used the same frame mounts and OEM 1978 Engine mounts...Exhaust pipes is good. Starter is good. Distance to radiator is good....QUESTION IS CAN I CUT SOME OF THE STEERING CAP..The driver side Exhaust manifold is about 2 inches interference..OR can I raise the engine some about 2 inches..IM NOT INSTALLING HEADERS AT ALL 20230905_194430.jpg 20230905_194408.jpg 20230905_194359.jpg 20230905_194214.jpg

  2. How much can you grind the underside of the manifold?

Can you go up and forward a little to make it fit?

From what I can see the outlet flange for the exhaust manifold is overlapping the top of the steering box by an inch or so, if you move the engine up when an exhaust pipe is bolted to the back of that exhaust manifold it will still hit the steering box, you could try to move the engine over to the right but that usually creates it's own problems, the best choice is to dump that useless pig of an engine and find a narrower 351 W or a 302, not what you want to hear but what you need to hear.

switch sides? and exit in front of mount? 351c mustang manifolds?

I know but block huggers, just saying, your so close.

  11. You can try anything you think will help but I do believe cutting any material off the steering box itself will let all the gear lube end up on your Floor. I cases like this a simple shift to the passenger side with the total package is very acceptable. In fact, many of the big 3 built vehicles have drivetrains set off center. The trick to not making a problem is keeping crankshaft centerline Parrell to chassis centerline. If you are using the Rubber Mounts I think you are you should know there are 2 different height mounts. If you have the low or short ones changing to the Taller ones might just be the cure for you. Best of luck to ya.

Good evening..fooled with the engine a little this evening..I removed the driver side exhaust manifold. The engine dropped right on the OEM 1956 frame pads with the 78 351m mount. Passenger side is great. The starter will fit; transmission to fire wall is good..An old gentleman here told me to get manifolds for a 351C 2v and I should be good to go. 20230907_202659.jpg

Hello..I ran into a guy that was looking for a 351M and I should him the video of it running.I told him what I wanted and he went to the bank and followed me home !!

  18. If the headers prove to be problematic, hunt down a set of early '70s full-size Ford 302-351 cast manifolds. These fit really well into this frame. And I'd recommend ditching the C6; sell it to a truck owner or racer. Very tough trans, but also a mileage-killer due to high internal drag. A C4 or AOD will be a lot better....

Yes I was told about the C6 transmission but it was married to the engine and I'm going to use it because I don't care about gas mileage. Lol

Good Evening To Everyone. Hope everyone had a Great Thanksgiving. I turned wrenches yesterday and got more done. Put my accessories on and power steering pump and lines on perfect.. Have to put the Air Compressor on and find a way for the gas pedal and linkage for transmission to OEM steering column.. ALSO THE KEY switch works but I have to jump the solenoid to start the engine.. Do I need to put a push button in it?? 20231124_170004.jpg 20231124_165949.jpg 20231124_165934.jpg
