Recently the 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7 GTE I had in college came up for sale on Ebay. I really wanted it back and bidding topped $75k with the reserve not being met. I sold the car for $8100 back in 1989 and thought I did really well on it. For investment reasons, I really wish I hadn't sold that car...until right about now. Anyway, it got me thinking about the cars I really miss and there are only two that I really miss. Both went to other HAMB'ers and I've never seen or heard of them again. I'd love some updates if anyone knows either one. The first is the 1957 Ford two door with an altered wheelbase. It was just a roller and it was black. It went to a HAMB'er named Mike in Phoenix if I recall correctly. Is that thing on the road or track now? The second is the old Gl***er G***er 1954 Ford Skyliner with the Latham supercharged Y-Block. I totally lost my *** on that car but just as it was getting done, I accidentally hooked up the vacuum lines to my wallet and ran out of money. I really wanna know if that thing is on the road now. It's in Canada now I think and I'm thinking it was Fireball500 or something real close to that who bought it? Any updates on either one just to make me cry a little? Those cars were **** to me.
Yeah, 75 THOUSAND dollars. I couldn't believe it. The guy wants an even 100k. It was a decent car and has had a total restoration since then. It's a factory 427 car in bright red with black interior and nearly every option. I guess the really nice 427 and 428CJ cars are bringing that now.
See, I knew you would regret selling the GTE. And the gl***er g***er. Speaking of, what ever happened to that '66 convt that Jim and Tony's buddy bought from my Dad's buddy?
I don't really regret selling the GTE other than the money it would be worth today. I could be happy with any big block cougar and I've had a bunch of them. I really miss the Gl***er G***er because everything on the car (other than the rust)) was exactly what I wanted. I spent years finding all the right parts that I could probably never find again. That motor had the best of everything. The car sold for what I had in just the engine alone. I saw a Y-block Latham setup (just the blower) sell for $5100 yesterday. I really loved the car but I was in a bind too. I'm just hoping it's running and being enjoyed now. I'd love to know. The altered was just cool. I should have stuffed that Algon injected 430 in it but I had the Gl***er G***er at the time and couldn't afford to do both. I have no idea what has become of it. Anyone know anything on either of these cars?
Damn, Scoob, you had a GT-E??? (That's my one ultimate dream car!!!) There were only 602 GT-E Cougars built. Of those, about 200 or so had the 427 side oiler engine, the rest got 428 Cobra-Jet engines, but they all had fender badges that indicated "7.0 Litre". Rare cars, for sure, and I'd take either motor...but would of course prefer a 427 car!
I saw the gl***er a couple of months ago in canada, it was offered as a partial trade on 32-3 window, he's a member on here, he owns the Barris fireball 500 and the saftey safari wagon
Thanks! I thought that was him. I traded with G***erFreak here on the HAMB and then he sold it to the current owner. I wrote him a few times but got no response. If it's for sale, I'd like to know. I would try to come up with something to get it back.
Not sure if I've got anything he'd want but I would like his info just in case. Any word on the altered 57 Ford?
Hey scoob, That makes two of us that got in a pinch for cash, and miss the gl***er(although it was your brainchild). It's still the desktop background on my computer even though ever time I think of what I let that car go for just to get the IRS off my back I want to kick myself in the nuts. BTW How've ya been man? any new and crazy unclescooby projects in the works. Laters Drew
The Gl***er was on ebay @ one point no? I remember reading a writeup about the Lexan dealer hood to show off the new overhead valve Y.
just thinking about these old cars today. I know that HAMB'ers own them both...or at least did. Any news? Did either one ever make the street?
12 years later, I've still not seen it show up anywhere. I always wanted to hear it run. I spent a lot of money on that Latham supercharged Y-Block and never got to hear it.
