Just bought my first hot rod project - 1929 model A roadster. Going to go the traditional route. Can anyone list some good parts websites within Canada? And for the Canadians what sites do you use outside of Canada as well. Thanks! I’m located in Toronto

  2. I use hortons hot rods in Milton

also antique Chevrolet in Hamilton is very helpful .
( even with the name they have helped me with “ off brands “

    Speedway
    Summit
    E-bay
You’d be surprised what you can find on Amazon

post some pics of your ride ,

That is a pretty open ended question with out any context. How much roadster do you have? Are you rebuilding most of the stock Model A parts and just adding a flathead or belly ****on? Do you have a plan? These questions need to be answered before you worry about suppliers. There are some awesome swap meets around Ontario, Barrie, Lindsay, Sterling, just to name a few. You can probably build your entire car with parts from these. I doubt Summit will cater to your build, Speedway more then likely. To rebuild stock Model A parts, steering, suspension, driveline, try Snyders or Mikes Affordable parts. There are lots of small upgrade houses, Google is your friend. Set up an account with KINEK or similar type US drop box in Niagara or Fort Erie, have all your US purchases sent to them and go0 pick them up every so often, will save you thousands over the life of the build and claim everything when you bring it across the border, pay the HST and don't get caught smuggling, it will cost you. Check with the Ontario Model A club, they are also a good resource. I have been sourcing, importing, and finding parts for 5 builds over the last 20 years. I have made literally thousands of buys here and in the US. If you have any questions, you can always PM me. The HAMB is a awesome source for build info, but building a car in Canada is totally different then building in the US.

  7. So-Cal Speedshop in Langley/Surrey, BC is also very good to deal with (Scott, John or Rich).

thats great! Thank you! Hopefully they will be help to get me running this highboy I’m going for. If you have any Canadian links for tires that’d be great. Third pic is where I’m headed - minus the paint.

Ya, Unfotunatley I kept it open ended because this is my first car buy and Im not to sure what Im going to get myself into. Basically how I started with old Harleys and now Im good to rebuild the motors on my own.
So I do have a friend who is going to help and has been hot rodding for 15 years now, but he only told me he buys from the US. He isn't an internet person so I figure I would do a little research on my own at the same time. He told me it was one of cleanest projects he's seen. So what I know that has to be done... and I know next to nothing.

Im going traditional hot rod high boy that would be TROG spec legal. My friend has a phaeton that he has built for it. Im going to plug away and make mine TROG ready.
    What I know I need:
    1. high comp police head for the original flat 4 I have that is in great condition
    2. electronic iginition
    3. two blade fan
    4. wheels (I was told a cool look is 18 front and 19 rear?)
    5. at some point id like a top cover - I have the original top bows.

this is a pic of where I'm heading for a final:

I have a box of parts from Mac's. Most of the stuff is new, and still in the bags (there are also other parts there) .If you are interested I can figure out a way for you to dig through. I am in Calgary, but I have family in Mississauga. I think the box of parts was going to end up there. Pm me if you are interested.

Have to add Pre-Sixties to the list as well. He hooked me up with some great steering components for my Olds when I was in Ontario last. Super nice guy to deal with with a pretty amazing inventory of parts.

As you're in the other end of the nation,
I won't bore you with details of our lost Model
A resource (Moir's). Having had sketchy dealings with Langley and the previous So-Cal dealer in Alberta, I now order from the U.S. So-Cal. The jobbers here do the same as you can on your computer and add the freight and 15-20% mark up.
Mike's, Brattons, Sacramento early, are all good to deal with.

Huh? You were told '32 wheels on the front and Model A for the rear was cool? This shows that either you are being misguided, or you need a bit more knowledge of the "standards" and terminology. I highly suggest finding some cool builds on the HAMB and reading up on their threads. You should learn what's right before you go buying parts or cutting up your car. @Chris from the northwest has a cool A highboy roadster deep in his threads from years ago. See if you can find it, and hopefully the photos are still there.

Hmm...3 posts. Pointing to @J.Ukrop roadster (not a '29), and the inspiration (not a '29). Search the site and figure it all out. Like @alchemy said, do the research and look at similar builds.

Dixies Upholstery in Kitchener ON. To get your Model A up and running they can help you out a lot. Their website doesn't show much, but they have a large Model A parts catalog and can get you anything you'll need. I believe they ship, but I've always gone in to buy things. Call ahead before you go there.

I trust my guy. I don't trust my terminology. I believe jumping into something and that's the best way to learn. To my understanding not too much cutting, more stripping! This is the car I have followed, and if you can break down how to get this stance. That's where I'm headed. To me, it looks like there's been more height added to it besides the wheels. Let me know what your thoughts are

That coupe looks like it has totally original suspension, with 16” ‘40 Ford wheels. The extreme chop might give it a higher stance look since the roof is so low.
