I was watching some g***er videos instead of working today and this video of the Goodguys Indy nats pops up from '97. This was one of the last boys trips that me my brother and dad took together while we were still young enough to do that sort of thing.
I know I have a pile of pics lying around somewhere from the all disposable cameras from one of these car shows
I remember that show fondly. Those Indy goodguys shows were great. I still wonder why good guys left IRP?
A bunch of us used to drive up from south central Missouri every year for that show. I imagine it was money that was behind cancelation and attempted moves. I now live just outside Indy and nothing like it anymore.
Absolutely, we use to come up every year from Texas, always looked forward to it was the best Goodguys, from the host hotel parking lot party's to the event and the evenings at Union Jacks, now that Goodguys have events in Texas it sure is close but not the same as Indy. Never missed an Indy but have missed quite a few Texas ones
Was that the first tour for Andy? If it was, my sons and I went to GoodGuys on Saturday then we took off on Sunday for a Yellowstone trip. As we were visiting the Park on Monday saw Andy’s roadster. Then saw Andy walking, he stopped and talked a short time with us. (Not in a hot rod) Thought it was cool to have that happen!
I'm not sure if that was Andy's first tour or not. I started going to Indy in the early 90's as a family vacation, found out my friends were there racing, which was what I was into, and morphed into going with them to help out. Our last year of going they said they didn't want cars without a reverser, said the push back by hand was slowing down their show, guess nostalgia was to nostalgia. I will say it was great while it lasted, got to go up into "Big Go's" tower and even up on the roof a couple times thank to Druman, Meadors was a nice friendly guy too.
If memory serves, I remember the last few years of GG Indy being a rain event. Guaranteed one of the three days would pour down rain for the full day or more. Who can forget the Swamp Meet, pure mud & water.
Loved the Indy event. When the Hot Rod Reunion started in Bowling Green, the nitro car guys said they were not going all out at Indy, because if they broke they would be headed home without a chance to run at Bowling Green the following weekend. Later, Gary Meadows said that when he lost the promotor job for the March Meet, he had to pull the plug on nostalgia racing as it was not profitable without the March event supporting the whole program. Of course that decision pretty much ended a once exciting Indy event.
