Hey guys, I’m looking at a 52 Chevy 3100 truck for sale & can’t quite tell beside the cab corners being rotted what all is wrong with it. are there other common areas on these that tend to rust/other problems etc.. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
The lower front corners of the cab/firewall are bad spots on some as well. It's a truck that most everything is reproduced for so a little bit of rust isn't a big deal if you're capable of the sheet metal work or have a good shop that is.
Haha just noticed my goof up. I was in the middle of eating when I posted this & hadn’t noticed the title, P the thing is pretty solid with the exceptions of the cab corners but it has only a bill of sale. I’ve never dealt with this kind of thing. How hard & expensive is it to get a title with only a bill of sale?
As stated, lower cab corners, lower cowl, also floors are often bad. All parts are reproduced and fairly easy to replace if you can weld sheet metal. As for title, ask your local DMV, or check with a title service to see what they would charge. In any event do not put $$ into it till you have that title.
Ok. Would a 3100 truck have 6 lug wheels or 5 from the factory? The guy said it’s a 3100 but has 6 lugs in front. Rear is 5 as he said it’s a Ford 9”
Check out this guy's channel for rust and dent repairs on some AD trucks. Good watching. https://www.youtube.com/@CarterAutoRestyling
Anyone got an idea on how many lugs on the stocks for a 52 chev 3100? (I was wrong earlier, it’s a 52 not a 50)
Hey, I’ve been driving by that truck twice a day, M-F on the way to and from work. The bed must have been recently sat on there. Didn’t have it before just the big C Notch.
When I drove home this morning it wasn’t there, I’m sure I’ve seen it on the way home before. Did you buy it? Or maybe the seller is not leaving it out anymore? To be honest this morning was the only time I actually looked for it on the way home though.
Aside from the cab issues and no title, take a look at the rear frame. That tall c notch looks like it could be removed and the frame repaired as they haven’t cut out all of the original frame yet. Those rear bars running from their home made crossmember back to the rear end tells me that whoever was working on it didn’t know what they were doing. Can’t tell if they’ve removed the original spring hangers or not.
Yeah I got her. It was a real ordeal getting it off the trailer onto the side of my house. The running board bolts kept catching on the trailer & a real tight squeeze to top it off. Now just to decide where to start. the rear suspension is pretty messed up but being that it came with a good running 250 I think I’ll start by trying to get it running then work on the rear suspension. I’m wondering if a th400 would work with that 250?
Are you asking, because you have one? It will work, but it does use up a bit of the HP the 250 will produce.
A friend has one he’s selling so I was thinking about getting it from him. What would be a better choice for the 250 in Automatic?
400 trans will work fine...it only uses extra power if you put a lot of power through it. It's a percentage deal. Don't sweat it.
Well that is a slammed AD truck starter kit. You would have to check but Title wise you may be better off saying that you built/assembled it with/from parts you bought. Get a 3 ring binder, Get some of those page savers that go in the binder. Put the bill of sale in one of the page savers and print out a couple of the photos that you took when you first looked at it. The idea being that you didn't buy a complete truck you bought parts of a truck. Then you add the bills of sale and receipts for the major parts that you buy for it, Engine, Transmission and what not. That just shows that you legally bought all the major parts when you go to have it inspected. Somewhere in the California DMV title your rig they have the list of what you need and what you have to do but they will always want to have you show proof that you legally bought and own all of the major parts. Go thought every nook, crannie and hiding spot in the truck though. The pink slip could be hidden away in it somewhere if the interior hasn't been totally cleaned out.
