Hey guys. I am trying to figure out the steering setup for my car. It currently has a Vega box. But I don’t want a cross steering setup and would like something a little more period correct. I have a corvair box but I would like a straight column, no U-joints. It’s an A on a 32 frame. Is the 53-56 f1 box the best way to go or will the corvair box work? It’s a blown FE up front. Thanks for any advice

  2. Blown FE is pretty heavy? I would look at an early Mustang box. And, in spite of popular opinion I will use a Pete and Jake do***ent! ;)

I agree with Tman. My latest project has a Falcon box (pretty much the same as a Mustang) and it is a stout unit.

When I did my deuce highboy pickup a few years ago I wanted side steering. I used a rebuilt for a 37 Hudson box for a 32 frame from Neal Jennings nhrp32@att.net or check his Instagram page. He also does F100 boxes which I prefer over the F1 box because of the column angle. Neal is not cheap but he's the best.

That’s good to know, I have a manual 69 mustang box out in the shed. I’ll have to grab it out of the shed. Thanks krylon32. I will check it out! I knew it was better to ask before I ended up with a shed full of steering boxes lol

I'm running a vega box on its side with the pitman arm up.

It works great. my pitman arm pivot is the same as the rear pivot of the axle which helps.

Works great, and you've already got one!

I used a single u joint as the joint from the steering box splines to the 3/4 dd on the steering shaft. it also allowed me get my steering fine tuned to the height I wanted. It wouldn't be necessary if you know how you are gonna sit in the car already.
