What do you call it? It hooks to the water pump inlet and outlets of a small block Chevy and then about three inches higher mounts the old Chevy 6 Cylinder Water Pump. I found one at a Flea Market this weekend, I know its for when you lower the engine in a Street Rod, but still want the fan to be in front of the radiator at the right place.

Anyone know who made it, or what it's called?

I'll try and post some pics then.

If it looks like this ... it is a ZIPS water pump riser.
The above is the latest version. There are at least 3 other ones before this one ... but ALL of them work the same.

    # 1 ) was cast iron
    # 2 ) aluminum
    # 3 ) all aluminum but has a more squared look.
    # 4 ) the current one ( shown above )

  7. Sorry to hi-jack, but was something like this available say late 50's? I am just wondering because I have the same issue on my truck, and while I don't know if it is going to be a problem yet, I long for information should the need arise.

NO ... not available until the late 70's. They were iron.

    I always use a ZIP's on 32 builds with a SBC.

It raises the fan centerline 5 and 1/2 inches. You can run a larger ( 16/17/18 inch ) fan ... which really helps in the cooling department.

I have a 17 inch 6 blade mechanical fan on mine. Just add a shriud and you are about done. Another cool thing about the ZIPS ( IMHO ;) ) is that a bracket to hold the alternator and the A/C cpmpressor is already cast into the housing. If you do not want them  they are easily removed. The non available " back in the day factor " is far outweighed by the superior function ... to me :D

  9. Ok, thanks. Some concessions may have to be made. It'll go good with my T-5! Ha!

You can also paint it to tame down the newness ... and they are not as noticeable. I did not paint my aluminum ones ... I already have aluminum heads, aluminum intake, alternator and " other stuff " that is not era correct to the 50's/60's.

I like to change the air bleed screw on the top of the pump to a air bleed valve from General Motors. Part number #10070107. I is a LOT easier to bleed than the little screw. Easier to get to, lets out a lot of air/water and I only have to bleed the system once. If you are not real careful ... the original little bleed screw will lift off the pump ... by the time you turn it enough to get a decent amount of air/water when bleeding. The GM valve will not turn all the way out. It has a stop built in.

    Below shows INSTALLED ... :D

Snow white industries also sells something similar but uses an Opel waterpump. I have owned both.. the snow white is a cleaner design but the Zips uses a GM 6 cyl water pump.

Mine is made of cast iron and it looks a little smoother in the middle. Here's some pics:

    :)

It is worth at least a hundred dollars ...
New ones cost about 250 dollars.

You need a few pieces to make yours work. I use a 1969 Nova 6 cylinder water pump. The standard non A/C one. The A/C one has a different pulley hub :( You can use standard V8 Chevrolet pulleys for a short water pump or these ... ( new )

    Lower pulley Chevrolet # 3850838
    Pump pulley # 3995642

I like to use a straight up water neck

    Everco # W-2493 or Pontiac # 477202

    A Gates lower hose # 20225 works great ( trimmed a little ) on 1928 to later 1930's Fords. I use a Gates # 20046 on the upper hose .

Chevrolet # 715894 is the alternator adjusting arm. If you run the A/C also ... a street rod bar with two heim ends ( one LH and one RH ) will work well

Thanks for all the info. I ended up finding another thread on the Hamb about this.

$20... that's a tempting offer seeing that I picked it up for $10. Heck, I could double my money!!!

Just kidding. There's a lot of great info on this forum and a lot of good people willing to give it. I appreciate it...

What is the best place to get these Zips things? I never knew such a product existed and had almost resigned myself to go with an electric fan.

Anything out there like this for a small block Ford? I see Zips has a shorty pump, but I didn't see a riser.

  23. Does anybody know if this will bolt up to a Chevy 265?

This thread from 2009 was used to answer the thread from 2015 that you asked the same question on and got an answer. only thing is this thread has been dead for 14 years until tonight when you didn't take the time to search yourself . The Zips riser will fit and is 50 bucks more than it was 14 years ago. Screenshot (90).png

I made my own. Where the water pump goes, I used the cap from a welding bottle with two 1" square tubing going to the ports in the block. It helped that I already had a Zip's housing to make a jig from. When I was done, I realized that I didn't need it so I gave it away.

I know this is an old thread. Zip p***ed away, and I'm not sure if his shop is still making the risers.

Speedway sells something similar. It could be a Zip's knock off? Nothing new there!
