So a while ago i decided to start building an AV8ish build. I really like the flatheads, wanted to use a model a body, but was just oing to use this to cruise around. Not looking for it to be a drag car. I got the frame, drive train, and started looking for a body. Happened to find a 29 body that was labeled as "yard art". Guy wanted $100 for it so i jumped on it. I started digging into it over the past couple of weeks and starting to feel over whelmed with where to start. It is pretty rusted and im not even sure if i should continue. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Most of us start with a lot more than what you've got, and most of us have enough experience, skill and tools to have a chance to succeed. My advice: NO. Look for something that you know is within your wheelhouse.
Better builders have discarded better cars than that, and worse builders have started with stuff like that and made a nice car. Do you have the drive to learn the skills needed to make that into what you would be proud to drive? The general rule of thumb is to start with the best car you can afford. When I was shopping for a 28-29 Model A Roadster Pickup, I actually paid way less for a way better truck just because it wasn't advertised. There's a lot of rusty Model A junk out there, and replacement parts are easy to come by. But only you can decide if it's above your head.
What you have there is $100 worth of parts! I think you should look for something a little more complete and in better shape. Model A sedan bodies are reasonably plentiful as they made a lot of them and sedans don't seem as popular as the coupes and roadsters so the prices for them are more reasonable. Put your effort into getting that ch***is where you want it to be while keeping an eye out and you'll come up with something better body wise I am sure.
I have no idea about your background, so...my advice with any of these old Fords is to do your homework first. Obtain multiple restoration and factory parts and service books for the car you plan to work on so you can understand how these things are made and go together. Understand all that before you start modifying anything. It will also help you ask informed questions. The types of books I mention are available either as originals or reprints. Google.
