This is a confusing situation. I see recent posts from people saying Crane still offers lifters for this or that engine. I google Crane Cams and the results link directly to Comp Cams website. I search Comp's website for Crane, and I see nothing. Crane Cams Australia pops up on a Google search, but that's about it. Yet, I continue to see industry pro guys with recent posts mentioning Crane's offerings. Google search results are all over the place - articles from 2009 saying they're gone, from 2011 saying some motorcycle company names S&S bought them. What a mess. What is actually Crane's current status? I'm really just curious.
I believe they are gone….Comp is the big dog in the cam world these days…some love em…others despise them….still plenty of options out there if ya want something custom..all ya need are the specs
What I seem to remember is they were a casualty of the economy crash and closed their doors 15 or so years ago. I also remember reading about their equipment being purchased by the S & S Motorcycle Engine Company. Crane made a lot of cams and parts for Harley's was the reason for the purchase.
That's what I thought. And yet, I still see guys posting within the last few months saying "The Crane catalog still shows ......(insert part type here)". And why does CraneCams.com link to Comp? What's the deal with Crane Cams Australia? Again, all very confusing.
Corporate Tomfoolery combined with lies from sales people & writers, there is no honor a**** thieves !
Thanks! I'm going to any day now be looking for a hydraulic roller cam and lifters for my 354 Hemi. Is Crower the best bet for the cam and lifters for that now? Apparently small block Mopar hydraulic rollers fit the 354? I know you have forgotten more about the early Hemi's than I'll ever know, so your thoughts would be appreciated. By the way the 392 iron dual quad intake that I bought from you is all powder coated and looking good for the engine when it's done!
Sadly alot of companies are no more than names or memories. Global economy, etc. caused some to close shop or get bought out by foreign investors or investment co-ops looking for tax writes off's. Holley is a perfect example, buy a bunch of different companies, take a bunch of the manufacturing overseas then sale the same part under 10 different names.... Only going to get worse as America keeps selling land, businesses, and work to overseas en***ies..... .
howards for the win call with a company part number and they will grind it also i have had great customer service from them
Rollers will, of course, be a billet so check with all of the 'big guys'. Schneider has done a good job for me previously on such. I have used many Isky cams but last month they quoted a flat tappet 354 cam at $50 more than Crower.... For the roller lifters go to Gaterman in Florida and use their RB pieces.
There is still a PFD catalog up based out of Australia. Crane Cams Master Catalog A search brings up several links, Jegs says Nope, we don't have anything. Summit lists four items still on the back shelf. It's like all too much stuff on the net. Web pages and catalogs are floating around long after the company is gone. The Summit listings remind me of when I worked nights at a parts house in the late 80's early 90's that was a warehouse with two retail stores. To my knowledge they never got rid of anything that they had on the shelf. They might sell way outdated pieces at a stiff discount but nothing got tossed out and more than once that helped someone get a part that otherwise was seriously hard to find. Then the computer said 0 on inventory and it was never ordered again because there were none to order but it was still in the computer.
Flat tappet lifters: both LA & early BB 361-413 lifters work. My understanding is the connector bars on the LA are too short to work on the Chr Hemi, but work on the DeSoto (same lifter bore spacing.).
You can try Schneider Cams to....They helped me a lot to figure out what centerline I should use on my old Crane roller cam in my blown 392....
