Matt does really cool work. I’ve been following this.

I would imagine the AACA has a contract on his life.

I love it. Kinda fun that he discovers that the body was likely a hot rod at one time. People seem to glaze over that this car is not an original, was not actually in a museum but consigned by the museum to sell it, and the car had had a bunch of miles put on it in the decades since it was restored.

I’d vote for a Riley ohv banger but I know it’ll get a flathead v8. I’m into it either way. It’s closer to what would have happened in the 40s than us fixing a trashed body before we can even start.

If they didn’t want it turned into a hotrod I guess they should have bought it instead of him

  4. He shows in the video that the car isn't pristine, and actually used to be a hot rod. It hade a filled cowl vent that was re-opened for the restoration, and other clues.

I would be doing exactly the same thing he's doing. In the latest video he picks up a rebuilt 37 flathead V8 for it..

Even if it was a 100 pt. resto. It's his car. He can run it off a cliff if he wants.

Also, about youtube... it's an odd place. You could be feeding starving orphans and somebody would come along and have a negative comment, so it's to be expected.

There's not a single hair on his ass if he doesn't pull it into the swap spaces at Hershey. It's not "modified" just yet, is it? Only missing parts. "No modified cars even if used as your transportation" is the rule. I would...;)

There was a time when I would've thought that it was wrong to mess with an original car (which it sounds like it wasn't).

But now I know there are more than enough original examples for people to see.
I say more power to him.

Of course if he was dropping an LS motor and digital gauges in it I'd feel different.

I find roller flex comments sort of sad/disturbing. What if Matt made it a fuel altered or a bonnevill0e racer. Only a 50s rod or do not touch

Getting mad is what we do to ourselves.
Whatever anyone else does is their action.
The emotion we experience is up to us.
    Innovations are applied inspirations.
As long as I don't have to like or dislike them. It's all good

I say don’t listen to what people say because you’re the one putting it down while they cry to a screen or to thin air with nothing in return. Even stock car enthusiasts are in a box they can’t seem to climb out of due to the fact they fear the back lash of that small group of old farts and dorks that can’t imagine a better life.

I absolutely have preferences for myself. And I like the idea of making an effort to stay within the parameters we've set for ourselves here.

But actually getting mad about something someone else has done to their car?
    No. LOL

And I don't have much tolerance for people who do.

Careful....he is pushing your MAD button....

  14. Chop and rake the windshield back, make a chopped top for it, get the party started. When we get down to 2 original cars left we can start to worry about preserving them.

If it didn’t start with two ugly spare tire front fenders, and it was mine, I’d leave the fenders, dropped axle, put big and little black walls on the green stocker 18s and call it a day. But I don’t own it. Lol

No mad here...giver Matt!! It's kind of gone near full circle stock to Hotrod...and back and back again...funny how that happens eh!!

The fact he's using very planned discretion in paying homage to the past...even better...

It reminds me of that old b&w video on Bonneville with that Deuce Roadster racing along in the beginning...I think it was the mid 40s early 50s...

I don't think the windshield was on it...

   ...the movie was Hotrod...

Wow. Hey, context isn't a fashion statement. "Make Them Mad" was a tongue in cheek title for a guy making a restored roadster into a fenderless hiboy. That some above seem to think we're supposed to be mad or get mad at him, I don't know what you read or watched but that color don't match for shit. Uh oh, context alert. That was a metaphor. There's nothing about color match in this shit either. Who to make mad? I suggested the gatekeepers at Hershey. They can't toss him. It's simply missing parts so if they toss him they have to toss any running chassis cars as well that tend to include the cream of the crop. Context. It's not just for theme papers...

I love the project. I've been following along on youtube. I hope he decides to keep the green color and the banger.

I've been subscribed to his channel for quite a while and I don't remember him doing a hopped up banger before. Would love to see him build one.

I have a dream that will probably never be realized…whether it’s for myself or professionally, of building a car which requires absolutely zero rust repair or panel replacement. Yeah, I’d hot rod the shit out of a pristine all original car.

There's a car for everyone, and what makes one person happy is always going to make someone else unhappy. I understand those who love restored cars that are kept as close to stock as possible. And I understand those who feel this '32 (regardless of what it's been during it's life) is close to original appearance and they want it to stay that way. But personally I have very little affection for original cars, and no qualms about taking any old car and making it what I like. Some may hate what I've done, but if the end result makes me smile whenever I drive it, that's all that matters.

I’m bummed he isn’t keeping the banger in it. Like come on pretty much every 32 has a v8. It’s become boring. But a hot banger hot enough to peel some rubber is not boring at all. But it’s his car… for video content watching I’m out, already seen to many Flathead v8 videos

Haha thanks for the feature on this one! A bunch of guys here nailed it on the head with what is going on with it. A few things I’m not sure fully translated in the videos (not that it matters it’s mine to do what I want with it).

    IMG_7422.jpeg

    1. The car was originally a V8 car. The vin on the frame/title tell me that. Someone performed what I like to call a “fantasy restoration” by making it a B model and throwing all the options and accessories on it possible with whitewalls. It was never this car from new. So much like a traditional hot rod build they created the car they wanted much like I’m in the process of doing now.

    2. One of the previous owners contacted me (not happy I was hot rodding it) but mentioned that he bought it from the guy that restored it in Ohio. The car was in fact an old hot rod out of Jersey that he turned into what we started with. It has holes in the rear panel for Pontiac taillights, dual antennas in the RR quarter, fuel filler neck hole in the tulip panel, filled and reopened cowl vent, etc.

    3. Not knocking the car, but it is basically an amateur restoration in the end of the day. While they did start with a very nice body; the work that was done isn’t perfect by any means and you can easily pick it apart. But for me it IS perfect for what I wanted. A car that we can get right to the “fun stuff” without me spending years doing rust repair. I think it’ll be fun to follow the general evolution of an early WW2 era hot rod.

    4. As mentioned by someone else the plan is to either run a 37 engine or backdate the engine a little with 32-36 style heads Then it’ll be normal stuff; Winfield cam, high rise intake, cheater heads or finned heads, etc. Nothing crazy. I also have a 32 studebaker and a 32 Lincoln dash panel sitting that I may swap into the dash and probably paint the dash black (or trade someone if they want a nice wood grained dash). Then it’s obvious stuff like lowering a little, juice brakes, chopped windshield, headlight stands out of the stock headlight bar, etc.

While I didn’t buy the car specifically to ruffle feathers it has been fun. It’s just amusing to pull the same routine with the purists when they complain .. “Actually someone RUINED a historic hot rod when it was restored! I’m just taking it back to its glory days”.

I considered bringing it to Hershey but I’m slightly worried someone will make me an offer I can’t refuse on it and I’m not done “ruining” it. Hope to see some of you guys out at the swap! I threw some inspiration photos below.

" Everything old, is new again "

It's your ball of clay, and you can sculpt it into any shape you want, that is the beauty of, not being influenced or swayed by others, that cant embrace what you are doing with this very cool 32 Ford.

I am sure that nobody ever said to Michelangelo, "Hey dude, you are wrecking that ceiling"

Go for it Matt, enjoy creating something different or unique!
