Thought I would post what I have found regarding the type of head gasket to use with an original 'crow's foot' cast iron Winfield head. I had a bunch of issues with popping head gaskets on my model B block with a Winfield head. The issue turned out to be the gaskets I was using hung into the combustion chamber of the head exposing the fire ring. The gasket would not seal properly. It is vital that the gasket you use fits the contour of both the head and the block. Original Winfield heads have a larger area where the valves are located to 'unshroud' the valves and increase flow. The gaskets I have found to fit nicely are the Fel-Pro 7013 R4 which is a copper gasket and a Best 573G which is a graphite type head gasket. I have included a few images of the composite B model type gasket I was using that did not fit, and hung into the combustion chamber, and a few images of the Fel-Pro 7013 R4 which looks to fit nicely. Give you guys another update when I get the banger back on the road.
Chris, great info, thanks for posting. Feel free to post a video of the banger when you have it running again
I ended up using a Fel-Pro 7013 R4 copper head gasket. It fit the Winfield head perfectly and has sealed up nicely. I've done around 200k's with no issues.
This is an old thread, but I am trying ti find the Felpro 7013 R4 copper head gasket that A Boned talks about. All I find is 7013 C. Any info out there?
