IMG_0873.jpeg The recreation of KKOA Hall of Famer Darryl Starbird`s T-Bird was there. He was signing autographs and selling his books all weekend. I attended his 90`th birthday party that was held after the Hall of Famers awards presentation which was held on Saturday night. It`s usually held on Friday night. The music was too loud, so I didn`t stay to long. The awards are where the Hall of Famers give out there pick`s they chose to the participants of the show. This is where the nominees are introduced and two people are picked for the Hall of Fame. This year was Tim Strange and ? Brain Fart. (the glass guy ?) 5. If I'm not mistaken, Cliff built the reproduction of Darryl's Thunderbird. I think he built at the same time Darryl built the bubbletop version.
The Porsche is also Cliff's build.
Everett (and Cliff?) built the Futurista tribute.

Cliff and Everett are now building a clone of the Predicta. It is going to be the red Monogram models version. I talked to Everett and Christie at the ducktail run last weekend

He`s talking about the late Harold Olson`s candy yellowish orange Chevy later painted a dark cherry and ended up on the east coast. Now painted a dark green and owned by Bob Dron of California.

When I lived in Illinois we (L.L.K.) would meet @ the L.S.S. each year... it would always be at a different place... great times, I really miss the camaraderie!
So good to see it still going on.

A retired firefighter from Texas bought this as an unfinished Custom a few years ago out of Tennessee. Found it thru Tommy Steadman who did the body work and chop on it for one of his customers. IMG_0859.jpeg IMG_0865.jpeg IMG_0864.jpeg bump

So you ask who Tommy is. He made video`s on how to chop tops in the 80`s. And has chopped tons of cars. When Dave Wolk chopped his first Merc (New Kid On Blocks and was mint green) at the age of 19, he used Tommy video as a guide. Tommy is also a KKOA Hall of Famer. He was there in the swap meet area vending. Dave Wolk also had a spot vending as well. Dave was one of the nominees this year for the Hall of Fame. Tommy was honored and given an award at the Custom Car Revival a couple years ago. Dave has won the people`s choice award and a couple years later won the best Merc at the Custom Car revival as well. When Dave met Tommy at the Custom Car Revival. He recognized the sound of his voice from the videos and asked if he was Tommy. As Tommy never showed himself in them.----------Did you see the naked lady on the hood of the orange Merc.

  23. Man, I'm going to have to call that number and see about getting me one of those Merc chop videos. I've heard talk that the chop on mine looks like it could have been done from those videos. Would be fun to watch it.

I really liked this car. You just don't see enough kustom 55/56 Mopars. I spoke with the owner about some of the modifications. I didn't catch that he had used a Dodge hood (or parts, thereof) on the Plymouth. Of course the DeSoto grill and '54 Buick headlights are classic changes. I correctly identified the tail lights as '56 Buick Lee Lenses and '55 Chevy bezels.

Yeah, I like it too... the hood threw me, I thought it was a Dodge. The rear end is the kicker... the split bumper and the trim between, just flows. I've not seen the Chevy bezels tilted that way and it really looks good. Refreshingly different!
