Well, we finally got around to setting the official 2023 date the other day then also received this year's t-shirt artwork yesterday. So, I figured I could communicate those things here in case anyone would like to come along and drive the Oklahoma two lanes for around a 100 miles or so in September with us. Not sure of a start or end location yet or the route other than we have been discussing trying to do something toward the SE part of the state for a couple reasons... First, we have never necessarily headed down to the SE part of the state and second, there are some great two lanes to run down there. Here is the artwork by B-Scott Studios for this year's event featuring a couple HAMB-friendly cars (as is always the case). The 38 Chevy coupe is our own @Dan Hay's car down in Ft. Worth, TX that was originally built by his dad and is fixing to undergo some updates soon. The 56 Chevy is owned by Harold Farwell out of the Kansas City area that has done several of our runs. General information also on the website: http://www.hotrodhundred.com/oklahoma-city.html We have a FB page as well, but I am not on there to know how to get you to that... It is under Crossmembers Car Club and Events for those that want to follow it there. The Hot Rod Hundred is designed to bring back something that has been missing for the last few decades…..driving. The Oklahoma Hot Rod Hundred will be a drive that is off of the beaten path of everyday travel, for most folks. We'll drive on two lane state highways, cruise through some small towns, and have some rest stops along the way, so we can admire each other's cars and regroup. Don’t want to drive your precious hot rod or custom that far? Maybe this event isn’t for you. This event embraces road chips and bug guts as a badge of honor. Go a hundred or go home……….. Starting and ending locations as well as any stops along the well to yet be determined. Schedule of events: 7:30AM - Check-in begins 8:30AM - Check-in closes 8:45AM - Driver meeting 9:00AM - Departure Due to the number of registered cars expected this year, it's highly probable that stopping places along the route will not accommodate all of us to gather at one time. This is actually a good thing, as it will allow participants to stop when they want/need to along the way, for bio-breaks, fuel, etc. PLEASE NOTE - There are a few specific changes to the registrations for 2023 due to the logistics of the event: The focus of the event will be for cars and trucks 1964 and older. (If you participated in the prior events, you are still welcome!) All pre-registration entries must be postmarked by September 1st, 2023 to receive the event T-shirt. You may still register after September 1st, but the T-shirt will not be included. The organizers may choose to cap the number of registered participants accepted based on the final route chosen.
Sticker and t-shirt front artwork from B-Scott Studios. Also, I had several folks catch me at a swap meet this past Saturday asking about a route, so I guess I should start planning one...
Finally got enough planning done for this year to open registration! Link here for that. http://www.hotrodhundred.com/oklahoma-city.html Also, we will be visiting a pretty cool museum, Hajek Motorsports Museum in Ames, OK, at the end of the drive as seen here. We stopped here a few years back and it is a very cool collection of old race cars.
Awards are done! We only give two since this is about driving and hanging out with friends...not awards. Seems Alan Childers who does the artwork keeps giving me subliminal messages about building my 40 Merc coupe from what I have seen on a couple of these now for events this year.
Tomorrow is the big day! Got all the shirts, etc. packed in the 55 Nomad that I am driving tomorrow thanks to a good friend loaning me a car since I have been too busy to work on my own. Praying for a great day driving the Oklahoma two lanes and hanging out with a few hundred friends doing the same. We have almost 150 cars pre-registered and I suspect we may top 200 with day-of registrations in the morning.
Had a great day and was able to catch up with several friends as well as making some new ones. Ended up with somewhere around 200 or so cars and no real issues at least that I know of. The long distance award went to a fellow HAMBer @MMM1693 who drove his T coupe hot rod about 750 miles just to drive another hundred with us! And, the club pick went to a 56 Nomad that an older lady inherited recently when her mom p***ed away. It was her first time getting the car out to an event since her mom p***ed away and was an opportunity for her to start the chapter of being the caretaker of the Nomad instead of it being her mom's. Pretty sure it made her day. Here are pics of those two cars including Dan standing by his coupe shortly before heading back to Minnesota. I ended up borrowing a 55 Nomad from some good friends for this run since my Fairlane needs some attention and I didn't have time to do it. If it seems strange the number of Nomads in attendance, I know I counted at least 5 and there may have been 6 not including all the other tri-five Chevies. They were definitely out in full force today.
This was my first Hot Rod 100, had a blast! Thank you for all the time and effort you guys put into making this happen, it is appreciated!
The drive up was great, but then I got sick at Hajek's. Got heat stressed and got quite sick, but quickly hydrated and headed out for home early. The Imperial convertible ran flawlessly! Got a bit over 16 mpg with that big ol' 440-powered rocket! That's four runs each for my Coronet and my Imperial. I look forward to this run every year. Keep 'er going!
Thanks for a great HRH Jeff, it was great to finally meet you! I took some pictures but not as many as I would have liked. Seems I would get sidetracked a lot. Thanks again for a swell time and I will see you next year.
I guess I missed all the comments here until just now… Glad you all enjoyed it! And, I finally got the pics my son took uploaded last night. Not all HAMB-friendly vehicles, so I will only post the link… https://photos.app.goo.gl/vbTvxANfhgR7HUUh8
It's great that the event is happening again - and the date is already set! I really liked the idea of a new route to the southeast - it will be interesting to see new roads and landscapes. And Dan's '38 Chevy T-shirt is just fire. These cars are not just iron, but family history on wheels. I'm waiting for more details on the start and finish, I hope I can join!
The date for this year is September 27th and we are headed to NW Oklahoma to Wakita. Pre-registration closes this coming weekend. Hope you can make it. More info and link to registration here. http://www.hotrodhundred.com/oklahoma-city.html
