I have bought a 60's vintage supermodified. These were the cars I remember watching as a youngster. Its spent the last 50 some odd years in a either a barn or garage. Its Chevy small block powered and starts, runs, drives and kinda stops. It has a 3 speed manual transmission and a Studebaker 3/4 ton rear axle. A homemade straight front axle. rear suspension is a home brew torsion bar set up. The body looks to me like a 31 or 32 Chevy. maybe someone can help with proper ID. there is not much of it left of it. I will post more pics and will be asking many more questions about some of the components used in building it. My plans for now is just to get it tuned up. better tires and gets the brakes working better and replace the missing front bumper and take it to car shows and exhibition events. It will be displayed in the current patina state but it will eventually be taken apart and cleaned up and painted. If I could find any history on it that would be great. The car came out of Southern Ill. Mt.Vernon and Marion area tracks were supposed to be where it was run.
Cool! and nice find. I also liked the going to the dirt track races as a kid. I'd just prep it like your taking it to it's next race. It's a great preserved survivor, and it's current condition tells lots of stories. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome to the HAMB from East Tennessee. That's a heck of a first post and I really like your car. What else have you got to show us?
There will be more pics and stories as time permits. The 36 dodge in my avatar was another vintage dirt tracker that I let go during life changing cir***stances. 36 sedan body on a 48 F1 ch***is. 292 six cyl with clifford 4bbl intake and center steering.
Welcome to the H.A.M.B. form upstate NY and a vintage stock car racer. I am curious about the rear hubs and wheels, I know Ford used the 3/4 Timken rear, as well as used 3/4 ton iron floater wide 5 hubs, but those looks small compared to the stock/aftermarket racecar wide 5 pattern. I have never seen a wide 5 racecar wheel with a hole just big enough for the snout/axle flange, do you know what is going on there? Stock Ford iron wide 5 floater hub. Aftermarket wide 5 racecar wheels Wide 5 I beaded for my project
