I live in Apache Junction Az. Does any one know of a chrome shop close by that does a good job at a reasonable price to chrome a bumper?
If you can't find a place locally, don't be afraid to ship. If you get lousy work locally you're going to wind up shipping it anyway. Depending on the level of build you're doing it might be worth it.
Around here there is a company called Keystone, they sell supplies to body shops and also act as a pickup/ delivery service for Northstar Plating in Minnesota. I had the bumpers for my avatar sent to Northstar for replating during the build. When they came back I could not believe how perfect they turned out. No waves, marks, burn spots, they even had that “blueish tint” that chrome has when it is quality. I know they are not local to Arizona but if Keystone is in your area they take care of the logistics.
If you can't find a local source contact Janet or Denise at Bumper Depot- 1-661-810-0013, they're in Rosamond, Ca. I've been dealing with them for a few years on my chrome needs. Great people! Tell them Lum says Hi!
That my friend is called an oxymoron. Do not use Bumber Bozy, they are reasonable but their chrome peels quick. HRP
Royal plating in Tucson. Metro in mesa is out of business. Had bumpers done by Royal earlier this year turned out nice but not cheap.
IIRC, Keystone owns O'Rielly auto parts. Check them out. What the guys at Northstar told me was they can ship(both ways) thru O'Reillys, since it's normal shipping, & won't get added to the bill. Northstar isn't cheap, prices on chrome have lit-off like a V-2 rocket, but they're still less than most others. & their work is very nice. & done right. They also told me that the price included a small amount of repair work(straightening/rust-repair/et-al), so at least for some of it, that also won't be added to the bill. They are a yearly vendor at the BTT50's, & if you order work done then, there is a decent show discount. Don't know what would be available other than that. Marcus...
I will add that my bumpers returned from Northstar wrapped in very heavy protective packaging, the inside of the packaging had a layer of soft material to protect the chrome from abrasion. Yes, the cost was not inexpensive but I am sure that the size of the bumper had a reflection on the cost. I feel the price was justified for the quality of plating they did.
A few years back the question was posed and there was a place in Utah (Ogden?) that had a good rep. As always, you need current feedback, so hopefully this will spark a recent customer.
Some of you will hate this suggestion, but last week I saw a bumper that had been wrapped in chrome vinyl. From ten feet away I couldn't tell the difference. Not sure you could do anything with a lot of complex curves, but for a simple bumper it's a cheap alternative until you can spring for real chrome.
Two other guys I mentioned on another thread, both're in TX, might be an option: Might try calling Barry Hackney, texasstudebakerranch.com, Barry@StudebakerSite.com, 281/787-6230, Houston TX. I've seen Barry's chromed bumpers/etc. they're nice. & Craig Bierman, speedsportchrome.com, sales@speedsportchrome.com, 712/921-0235, Houston TX.(chroming). I haven't seen Craigs' stuff, afaik. But he's part of the SDC club, & those folks are abit picky. Marcus...
I use Tri-City Plating in Elizabethton, Tennessee, they will replate your bumpers are you can trade your bumpers for already plated bumpers. they do excellent work. HRP
