Resized_20221006_145230_8751.jpeg I made an introduction post since I hadn’t been on here in years. I recently was given a 30 A coupe. It was like a dream come true. My dad has and has several old cars since around the time I was born. He has a 35 ford five window powered by a flathead that he had mentioned giving me since it’s only partially done and he has another project or two and a nice driver. Knowing I have little time or money, he called me up one day, asking if I’d like to own a 30 model A five window? Of course, I said, wondering why he was asking. His good friend, who I’ve known as long as I can remember, had just finished building one. I didn’t know that at the time. I’ve called my dads friend uncle for over 20 years, though we aren’t blood related. My dad bought and gave the car to me. Talk about insane. I even tried to talk him out of it a few times. The car is what I’ve always wanted and couldn’t be happier. He brought it to me last October. Though it is fairly traditionally styled and early 60s inspired, there some things I have changed and will probably continue to change. I’ve started this thread for several reasons. One of which is to help me stay motivated to keep working on it and another because I know people love pictures. Here’s how it looked, loaded on the trailer and headed my way.

The first thing on the list was getting rid of those radials. Bias plys were in order. IMG_4745.jpeg

Yeah it’s the stock crossover and then split after that. The guy who built it has an odd sense of humor.

IMG_5086.jpeg Another friend of my Dad’s passed away from cancer a few weeks back. He was the kind of guy I didn’t really know that well, but he was always around. My dad was at one time related to him through marriage and adoption so to speak, I guess I was too then, long story that I don’t even know that I could tell without screwing up the details. I had memories of these valve stem caps and my dad told me the friend who had died put them on all his cars. So I had to get some.

I'm a big fan of y-block engines in about anything, as my avatar suggests. I would check in to headers asap to ditch the crossover pipe tmho! It will have a great y-block sound to it with duals or out the sides. Enjoy, looks good!

I had a 63 f100 a few years ago that had the front drivers side just bent and run down for duals. It had flowmasters and sounded great. This setup is just too quiet. I want something between what it is now and frigoff don’t talk to me loud haha.

Haha I guess you have the same sense of humor about the crossover. That trailer has been around since I was young. It was built to haul OT dirt track cars. ModelAs fit well too though.

Last I looked those red valve caps were given a specific lose of points in AACA judging. Apparently they were the THING when the book was written and it pissed someone off. Nice car!!

I did some small things on the coupe yesterday. I told J. Ukrop he should follow along since I was going to be steeling, I mean I was inspired by some things on his roadster. I’ve known of prism supply being in an OT hobby they make parts for. Didn’t know they had these until I saw them on Joey’s roadster. I think they are a nice touch. Should have gotten a better picture IMG_5083.jpeg

VERY cool car, good for you! You having this car probably makes your Dad just as happy as you are with it haha, which is a cool thing. And Y-blocks are sweet little engines. Looks right at home in that engine bay, makes it a bit unique IMHO.

I got the coupe out today. I have to be honest, I got it almost a year ago and haven’t put near enough miles on it. Today I ran some errands with my 2-1/2 year old son. He loves the car so much. I’ve really enjoyed being able to drive him around in it, being as I rode in a lot of older cars as a kid.

I put this air cleaner on. Not sure that I really like it but something about not having a hood and an open element air cleaner, like what was on there, makes me nervous. Maybe I’m just paranoid about things. I need to make some kind of cover for my distributor also. I’ve always been told that if water gets in them you can use wd40 to dry it out. The problem is that I would really like to be able to drive the coupe to work and can’t bring any aerosols or flammables in to work with me.

here’s the other Ukrop inspiration I mentioned earlier. The car was built in Minnesota, which is where I grew up also. The decal seemed fitting.

  21. Id really like to do a y block in my 32

As for the air cleaner good speed USA out of lees summit sells one like on my 53. I like the look. Same basic design as yours only a lil bigger smaller version I had didn't look right IMG_2023-09-23-15-24-38-322.jpg

I don't think you need to be concerned about the distributor getting wet at all. Maybe if you were driving in a pouring rain situation. But even then you would have more to be concerned with than the distributor. And like you mentioned just a small wd-40 spritz in side the cap will usually cure the situation on most any engine.

If that was mine, I'd be hunting down an eldebrock 3-2 intake and a set of carbs for the true hotrod open hood setup. Perfect for the look with proper made to fit header pipes.

I always love using old cars as a daily. The weird looks from the non car people and big smiles from kids staring out the window of their parents boring ass modern car lol

I haven’t yet. I need to put a license plate light on it as they will most likely hassle me about not having one. I’ve been far too busy working on my house to do anything on the coupe. I already have a light, just have to put it on.

That's a sweet A , I've always like the 60's GTO air cleaner, chrome with the little louvers around it . Nice shade of red too! Screenshot_20240202-125156~2.png
