Thanks ya’ll, some good racing and a huge crowd. The track has a lot of mom and pop charm along with a bunch of history. It’s in Waynesboro Va.
Most are members, they just don’t post a bunch. The cars have been pictured on here more times than I can count. I don’t see an Alliance tag under your name either.
From my understanding that was last race @ East Side , ( a Gore family track) originally a 1/4 . There where 3 tracks , First one & first track on East coast was Old Dominion Est 1950 or 1 , then Eastside & track @ a airfield near Lynchburg, the air field stop racing mid 90s, OD closed around 2012 , Now EastSide . East side since 80ish always had A/Fc on easter Sunday, This year it was @ Summer Duck track ( around since 1958ish ) Track was Originally open by a Hot Rod club, then purchased by Curtis family in 60s Sold around 2016 , Now rumors are sold again to another person, start 2024. There is a new location for ODS (50ish miles south) off 95 around Mile marker 110 , different owners & only circle track , road race course , some times test tune drag on straight away , 500 ft - 660 , Just a tree no timing . Tracks closing / Racing dead ! Freiburger made a statement a few weeks ago @ Drag Week , people posting on live feed Racing Dead, Freiburger said that there are more active race track ""Open Now"" today Then Golden days , let say 1970s??? I dont see it , If true ,, Just here between South Md, East W.Va & Central & N Va , there been around 10 tracks in last 15 years Closed
Many Hamber's are not Alliance Members...Only those members have Tags... Now stickers, plate toppers and other identifiers are available to all membership... ...and what Wrayman said...
I was told that Eastside opened in 65. It started with a dirt oval and years later they added the drag strip. The dirt track is still visible but all grown up with weeds. They were forced to stop using it because it was too close to the drag strip. The race last weekend was a nostalgia event honoring the late Mr Gore. I heard them mention a possible new ownership but I don’t think anything is set in stone right now. They did have another race scheduled for Sunday which included Jr dragsters and drag bikes.
Quite a show put on there at Eastside. Many good hot rods in attendance. I have been going to this event for a number of years. Gary Gore, the owner of the track, made an announcement during the event that indeed he is trying to sell or lease the track. But as yet has not received a significant offer.
Yup it was a slant six. That's my buddy Brian from Tennessee. He ended up winning this event and also won the Vintage Eliminator event on Sunday at South Mountain Raceway in PA
