Could I see photos of the headlight stands mounting position on 32 Ford 3 window? Also trying to determine which stands to use. The frame is boxed so mounting them will be interesting.... Thanks, Jim
I don't know about the headlights, but the shock seems to have an alignment problem. edit: you need to mount the rad shell and mock up the lights in locations until you arive at one that looks balanced to you.
Yeah, I saw the misalignment on the shocks, that's the way I got the car. I have figure out how to fix it without ruining the powder coat. May have to space them out at the bottom of the shocks to straighten them out. Edit: not enough room on the powder coated spring perch bolts to space them out. May have to bend the upper mounts. I'll figure it out later. Don't have the stands or headlights yet, can't mock them up. I was just wanting to see how other owners had done their cars.
You’ve probably already cruised the deuce threads for pics, but the easiest solution if you use smaller king bee or dietz lights is to use the upper shock mount location (shown above). If you use a frame rail mount style, just watch how far back you put it. You can run into interference with the back of the light bucket on the shock mount or your hood sides when opening them. I’ve only done a few 32s, but always seem to end up using frame mounts and putting them in the same spot. Here’s a pic for reference. Sorry it’s not a 3W.
I used the So Cal Speed shop stands with 32 lights on my fenderless 3 window but my frame is not boxed from the front crossmember forward. But i think you could drill and tap threads on the frame.I used the same mounts on my model a with the Guide headlights anb thry are polished stainless.
Don’t know what you’ve checked already (or not) but on your shock alignment issue, I wonder what angle your front crossmember is welded in at, then what position you have your axle (for or aft), and what your caster on the axle is set at. If you check your frame angle against your upper shock mount angle (put a long rod in the bolt hole) and you have 5-7 degrees difference, they may be welded on properly. Might just need to adjust your hairpins to position the axle for fit/caster. Just food for thought.
maybe some ideas on here …… https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/cool-headlight-stands-picture-thread.1114522/ Would rivnuts / nutserts work for you ? With a rubber pad, no one would notice.
This! And you can clearly see the spring isn't happy, its a bind and whats causing it is doing the same to the shock. Chris
This to me is an interesting topic as it changes the entire appearance of the car. Here's a few pics I've c ollected over the years.
I've done a few chassis over the years and you've got some other problems that need addressed before you worry about the lights. Sadly your frame is powder coated. I did a repair on a chassis for a customer many years ago that was powder coated and I managed to get a paint match from a local paint store that put it in an spray can. I carefully prepared the area after the repair and spoof canned it and I got lucky and the repair disappeared. You might get lucky mounting the lights with some 7/16th steel nutserts if your headlights aren't to heavy. Lot going on up front with a straight axle car.
