  2. What a great car and build!
That drive around the yard with the kids, and the driver’s door popping open is classic!

    I appreciate it.
Just noticed its exactly 3 years since I started this thread. I thought I would have been on the road much sooner! :)
    Not far off now......

The dash is out so that I can carry on with the wiring.

And I have made a start on repairing and fitting the inner skin for the trunk. This is a job that’s a way out of my comfort zone, but I decided to have a go. I am getting a bit more confident with the tig welder, so am hopeful that I can make a passable job of it.

After marking up the shape of the opening, I have given it a 5mm gap and folded the top and side flanges. Using my shrinker at even intervals along the sides, it is starting to pull the panel into shape. It’s slow progress but looks like we might get it to where it needs to be. It will need a bit of shape side to side as well.

Evening number 2 and I have never worked so hard with my little hand stretcher! Slowly getting this panel into the right place. I put some work into the top edge this time to get a better visual of where I am heading with the shape. 82F2D881-9069-49B9-B666-13AADB4C21CC.jpeg 3997CA59-DFE0-46E2-AF81-08854340C48D.jpeg

I think there with be a little bit of dolly work required here and there, but so far so good. Hopefully another evening will get it beat.

That is looking great! Alot of work in that piece, from the louvers to the shaping, not to mention inner frame, that is a real effort!

Thanks OB. Yes it has more hours in it than I expected when I started on it. Still a bit to do, including the lower lip which will be tricky.

Just re-read the whole thread, well done! I love what you've done to that thing, especially those exhausts, they make a great noise too!

    Thanks guys.
My mate is an electronics engineer and asked if he could come and have a play in the workshop. He has been working on the lights for me. We are using warm white Led for the headlamps and amber Led as flashers in the sidelight sockets. 6959ACEF-B458-41B0-8AC9-286BAB83C648.jpeg 7E7EDBF2-936F-48E2-A9CD-DDAB817B5A65.jpeg 39B93FE9-34CD-4C78-807E-DE336589E59E.jpeg 17B41823-3D88-4DDF-BEB1-AC0889715341.jpeg

Never trust an LED, they have flesh eating tendencies...

I have to think about that as I obviously don't get out much...:D...that's a pretty compact unit though...Hopefully it won't burn the retinas out of the oncoming traffic or there might be another fleshy situation...

I went to sealed beam which now have Halogen inside and felt like the wheel was reinvented to my old big ole vintage 30s buckets...major confidence booster really...

Thanks guys. Nearly there with the trunk. The skin is now fitted to the frame. Just some final welding and minor dolly work to do. Then I am going to do the slam panel.

    Thanks OB!

I have been working on the latch/slam panel/trunk stay etc while Scott has been looking at the wiring. Not much to show as far as pictures, but we did get some of the LED headlights and flashers…..

Did a bit more wiring this evening. Not much to show. For a bit of fun I made a little spot for my vintage bat as a digression from the job at hand.

Still working on wiring. We have fitted a large connector to the dash so that it can be disconnected from the loom and removed from the car if required. The biggest disappointment has been the quality (or lack of) of the new SW gauges. The smaller ones are OKish, but the Tacho and Speedo are shockingly bad. They have a real cheep feel to them, one has a plastic body and the font/typefaces don't match. The picture below of them illuminated shows the difference. They are going to get replaced before too long.
Here are some in progress pictures anyway…

I took the plunge and swapped the SW tachometer and speedo gauges for some from Classic Instruments. Night and day difference in quality. I went with the curved glass to give a contrast against the small SW gauges that will stay for now. F97C9CC1-4C76-416A-B499-16F5BF2F1CF5.jpeg
