Well, we showed up at Hershey 2023 with the largest and best selection of parts we’ve ever assembled. The weather was pretty hot and very sunny on Tuesday and Wednesday; and much nicer on Thursday as cooler temps and clouds provided a welcome break from the early fall heat.
Our sales on Tuesday were steady if not spectacular. Foot traffic seemed light all day. On Wednesday everything dropped off and sales were sparse. Thursday continued that trend. Green field near car corral.
It would be interesting to hear from other vendors.

I went Wednesday to buy. Seemed like there were lots of empty spaces. It took me 4 hours of walking aisles to find someone selling heat shrink tubing in anything other than pretty little pieces in kits and we never did find a vendor selling new tri-five parts. visited with my vendor friends who had plenty of time to chat. Looking forward to other's experiences. I really needed that ice cream float, but $9??

    What field were you in?
I am in Chocolate field. My results were similar.

Next time buy a program or ask a vendor to look at theirs. There are a few of tri-5 vendors there.
I was told food prices were crazy.

  5. My wife and I have been coming ten years to sell and this meet is losing steam quickly. There are so many empty spaces and parking of modern cars this could probably be reduced to two fields Some of the vendors that always were here did not return. I heard it was the same at Carlisle.

All I can say is that in my opinion as a “customer” and given I live within a day’s drive: there is no other event like it. Yes, there are a number of empty spaces and figure that trend will continue as the average age of vendors appears to keep creeping up.

The weather is certainly a crap shoot. Suffice to say you can get anything between hot, cold, dry or wet.

It is what it is. Weather and distance issues will not likely be resolved.

I hope to return next year with the thought that the parts you want are there; you just need to find them before someone else.

Thanks, actually, we looked in progtams multiple times, asked at information tents, asked at Chevy club booths-no joy. The one guy who was a possibility unfortunately was wearing an obscene political statement hat and my tri-five buddy walked away. Should be about the cars, you know?

Pulled pork sandwich, bottle of soda, ice cream soda=$17.50. But parking and 3 admissions for $20 was not too bad.

We did fine. Did better last year. I had a varied mix of stuff and lots of NORS ign parts. 5s n 10s add up quick. Sold a few hundy or better items. Crowd was strange. I came back after dropping my pal at the auction about 2pm. Getting back in was madness, huge crowds, oh boy! I get to my corner, dead zone. That was wed. I gotta say, walking away over a political hat? Must not need the parts at all. Not a topic for here but anyone who doesn't know the predominant view in this crowd without thinking about it? Maybe take up ballet...o_O

  13. Hard to say, but Monday seemed like the best day. Tuesday was pretty busy. Wednesday was pretty light traffic wise.
saw some pretty cool/rare stuff though.
A friend had this collection of Fish Carbs on offer, but no sale...

Happy to discuss politic with anyone, but I don't care to be screamed at. And that's all I have to say about that.

Things are definitely changing, no doubt about that. I'll keep my comments on that to myself though.
Personally, I had my best Hershey ever both buying and selling. Didn't bring a ton of money with me, but sold so much that I was able to pick up some great stuff!

OK, I can’t let that go without a bit more info. All the portable toilets near us had the standard bucket that you could drop in a few coins, a dollar- or nothing if so inclined. The folks manning the portable toilets near us do a great job keeping them clean.

  19. The show is changing. Mainly guys know what they have and want top buck. Great we all need to make some extra cash. Most guys I spoke with are tired of the economy and are just trying to keep up. Others are outright crazy.
Found some parts for Lasalle project. Negotiated until both of us were happy. Saw some cool stuff you just don’t see at normal swap meet.
Found a pretty rare rear liftgate inside handle for tin woodie. Best price online anywhere from $750 to $1500 . Found one in somebody’s .25 cent box.
    Made my week.

Went up on Tuesday to Thursday. Sold some and did some walking to buy. Light crowds and LOTS of empty spaces. More than last year. Rows were taken over with electric scoters and fat people in golf carts dodging each other. Years ago you had to all have a permit for all carts and no bikes. Fewer trash cans and food venders in chocolate field. Still the place where you can find the old stuff but lot of rumors about future of Hershey. Sad....

We did good selling and picked up a few goodies too. Saw old friends and met new ones too. I never have a bad time at Hershey. Obviously times are changing, but I will continue to go. I believe it will exist for quite sometime, maybe not on the park grounds, but somewhere.

How can anyone complain about the Hershey swap meet. I have been going for 20 years. It is always amazing. I can't wait until next year for it.

Hershey is so big it gets to where everything starts looking the same. All this talk of the future? Indeed a lot of seniors getting around a place that big, bravo to every one of them for the will and ability. Still, perhaps 30 to 40 years from now folks like these will be old fucks slogging thru old parts. 20231005_123547.jpg
Meet Steve and Jeron, they shared my spot this year and sold a lot of T stuff for good fair $$$. In their travels a young couple also afflicted with the T dependence needed some routine service so they hopped on a fender and had them come to our space to prep for a tour in a cpl days. The number of 20-something folk stopping by shuckin and jivin about Model T and prewar stuff all week was impressive. Don't worry y'all, the future is bright indeed.

The sky continues to fall, too many empty spaces etc.. same story i read every year.
Still the best event of the year.

  26. I do not see the Hershey event going away anytime soon. Hershey and the entire area make lots of $ off it, and Hershey loves $$.;)

Mikey, I hope you are right but don't think so. Herco controls everything for their benefit. They don't care about motels, restaurants, and such. They had a hockey game in the Giant Center AND the park opened at 5 on Friday. BUT NO ONE, including HR members knew when everyone was supposed to be out of the parking lots. I paid $27 for the worst hamburger I ever tasted, two small fries, and a bottle of water because of Herco greed. They take their percentage off the top of all food vendors. That's why all the good food vendors left. No food= no people.

If you go looking for a deal on event food you're right. Eck-Spen-Sieve. A cheeseburger at my local track is 8 bucks. I'm lucky they taste so good. Always get one. But it's the racing I go for not a cheeseburger. Carry a bag with some PBJs in it. A whole pizza isn't a cheap date at Hershey either, but dammit it's good. And for anyone upset with the news this meet is over? Joke's on you, they're locked in for 3 more years. Some folks say a glass is ½ empty, some ½ full. Me? I say "Hey, you gonna drink that?"

Was there from Monday evening until Friday afternoon. Scored some great deals, entire wood roof kit brand new for my 29 sedan and bought some junk I don't need.
Best deal is the hot pretzel at $4. Bring your own pop/water or hit the vending machines near the stadium at $2 a bottle.
Only my second year attending so no gauge as how it 'used to be', but we had a blast, saw friends and enjoyed the week.
