    Hello everyone!

Looking for a wheel/tire combo so I can start the setup for my 31 Pontiac project. What size wheels and tires are you all runnin under your fenders? I'm looking at 205/65R15 for the fronts and 245/70R16 for the rear. I think I might have problems with the rears rubbing so I might have to split the rear fenders and add a little space. It seems to me that I've seen 255/70s under someones fenders before but don't have it down on my carshow list. Chime in with your combos and comments!

:D sorry, I'm no good at deciphering metric sizes without a little time, but I seem to recall the tires we were running on our bucket were much smaller than 255's, 215 rear and 205 front I think and they were about as wide as I'd go under my Model A, so yeah, I'd venture to say 255's would need some mods.

205 for the fronts is so wide in my opinion, I wish they would make like a 175/95 so it would be tall and skinny

depending on the fender width and wheel width....also the ride height....if i was doing a radial big and little....i like a 145/15 front ( again depending on the fenders....) maybe a 165 if the car is bigger than a model a ....(lol) on a 4" to 5" wide wheel....possibly a 6" on the 165... 255/70/15's work well on A coupes....(not sure on the size of a 31 poncho...have seen one in person) a tall skinny 16 tire is a 215/85/16....would work on a 6" or possibly a 7" ......a 235/75/16 would give ya some height and width ....and fill up a back fender ...and work well with a 8" wheel.....if you have to get the rear cut....set the wheels where you want them and then measure and cut the rear.....and tuck the tires under the fenders......brandon down the road.

I guess my problem is that I'm used to dealing with muscle cars where you want WIDE tires. Maybe I'm going too extreme with these sizes. I'm gona head up to the Pumpkin run this weekend and give a look. Not many 30's cars up there though.

Yes, you're in street machine territory with those specs. I'd start with 15x165/75 or 80's on the front on a 5" rim and 15x235/75's on a 7" or 8" at the back.

  6. i'd be looking at a narrower tire up front too. depending on you suspension , width , ride height , etc the biggest might be a 165r15...if you want the car to turn without the tires rubbing on the fenders
