I didn't bother responding just a warning to anyone else that had thoughts of going to look at it. looked like a pretty cool truck & ford powered . forgot to add also had a Studabaker powered Model A Pheaton for sale
Wonder if he,s selling two hotrods because the missus told him to and he really does,nt want them gone
Hello, For us, it would have been a long drive to get to San Luis Obispo, well past Santa Barbara that is over 250 miles away. At least we would have the address to get to the area, before adding in map directions. In our younger days, we made the weekend trip to see our son at the University in Santa Barbara. We had a destination and a long weekend vacation planned out each time we visited. But, we planned it out. Sorry you did not get to see the pickup truck. You did get a move on without all of the pertinent facts. It looks nice and if it is advertised, he had a reason to sell it. Yes, it could have been his wife telling him to get rid of one or the other, or even both. After agreeing, a map or at least the address would have been the first choice prior to departure from your location. We had to sell the 327 powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery and the Harley Sportster so we could buy a single story house with a nice yard for our new arrival. So, yes, two adverti*****ts is always in the game of buying and selling. Happy when you buy it and happy when you sell it to fit your needs at the time. Jnaki If you really want that truck, call the guy and take a nice two day road trip planned out this time. It is not the end of the world and you had a bad experience. So, if it soured you to the purchase, it is moot. Move along… YRMV
we talked on the phone for a while seemed legit said he had the truck for only a couple weeks my thoughts were he was flipping it .but if someone tells you they have cash & are on the way & your not home when they say they say they will be there. you don't really want to sell it Once drove a lot further to look at a car was in constant contact with the guy messaged him when I got to his town got a hotel room supposed to meet him the next morning messages me & tells me he's busy in the morning now will have to wait till after noon. We killed some time in the town looked at the car & p***ed on it Last car I bought off Market place 1961 Sunliner over 2 years ago there was some typos on the ***le told the guy. I wouldn't buy it till the ***le was fixed.he gets super pissed & I leave calls me A few days later tells me he has the ***le fixed but now he's keeping the wheels & steering wheel that was on it. wheels to me looked like they belonged on a mini van . I still was less than thrilled but bought it anyway peoples behavior amazes me
Sounds like you and SS327 need to have a long talk. That truck looks like something that may be too nice to miss out on. I understand your frustration. Good luck.
Lots of cars out there. You don’t need to reward the jerks to get them. I might be inclined to tell the guy you’d like it but this time he needs to deliver it. Then be “gone” when he arrives.
no done with him this was a side trip to further north .on the way home was about 50 miles from him . thought about calling & trying again decided to just move on. Not a lot of Ford powered early cars out there . definitely didn't need it. not sure if I would have bought it or not. but not just a tire kicker
Marketplace is a **** shoot. Advertised a Robocop Taurus (electronic dash and fully optioned). Clearly stated had been sitting for 20 years. Motor stuck. Bring a trailer. Couple arrives, looks at it, wants to know if they can drive it home. WTF? Truck looks too good to be true. Maybe husband listed it to pacify angry wife? Sorry, honey, no one is interested. Guess I'll just have to keep it.
You're not alone when it comes to buying on the internet, regardless of what it is you're buying. My car deal fell thru when the first contact bought it and I found that out just as I was leaving. Was I upset, yep. Did I get over it, Yep. I think a Facetime conversation may yield better results, but that's just a guess on my part. Happy Hunting!!
I've had it both ways, Sat here and waited all day for some guy that said he wanted a car I had for sale and was on his way to get it and no show. Drove 150 miles towing my buddy's trailer to get a truck that I told the guy I would pay his price for only to p*** it on a trailer 5 miles from his place an hour before the time I said I would be there. His excuse, he didn't think I was going to show up. I found out later that the guy who bought it had upped the anty and bought it out from under me. Years sgo before internet I posted a 55 Chevy 2 door post no engine/trans or interior on the thrifty nickle and had a bunch of people show up to look at and half of them had a fit because they couldn't drive it home. I had it for sale for 350 bucks and that rolling shell would probably last about 15 minutes in the Cl***ifieds or FB market place now for 4 k. It was a hell of a nice body that I just didn't have the money to build and I had taken it in trade.
I 100% agree with you, the jerks don't deserve the business. Too many nice, honest, respectful car guys out there who will be at home when they know you're on the way. Once I see this type of red flag we are on to the next!!
I doubt it's a scam, but I do agree it's rude if he knew you were coming from 250 miles away, and wasn't close to home.
Friend & I went to look at a '48 2T chev truck. Friend had a couple long, long distance calls/talks w/seller(pre-cell ph days), who ***ured him of condition, esp for the price. When we got there, a couple hundred miles away hauling a trailer, we saw the condition of said P.O.S. , which was so bad we turned around to go elsewhere(always have multiple options n plans). Before we left, friend asked why the dishonesty? Reply: "If I told you the truth, you wouldn't have come to look at it!" . Friend asked how he thought that would entice buyers to actually pay for something after the dishonesty? ??? . Turned out to be a good roadtrip anyways... . Marcus...
