I took a few too. Good racing, sad Cacklefest. I didn’t take a ton of pictures. I tried not to duplicate McJim’s pics.
There were a number of nice cars in the show but many had wheels or other non-HAMB features so I didn’t photograph them.
I don't get it...keep'm traditional and put hotwheels on them...them dang Jones'es... Now there's an app they should make...the AI...Vintage Wheel and Tireswapper...
I'm so out of the loop. I didn't even know that was happening or I would have thought about going. I went to the movies and it was a little bit cheaper, LOL.
Been there.........done that.......... wasted a lot of my time for nothing. Funny thing is I can't always tell a billet wheel from a cast one..........so I chose to take all the pictures I want and just not post any of them. I see lots of details on cars and use the photos to decide which thing looks best to me for use on my car. I ignore things which may be on the same vehicle but don't suit my tastes. It works well for me as I couldn't possibly remember all the things I see at a show, but my photos allow me to look at what/how others did things and not only see things I want, but to see things I definitely don't want on my car. Not seeing things doesn't help anyone.
The 3/4 shot usually camouflages the off topic wheel, and then you can share the rest of the car with us. Sometimes interiors aren’t really something you can share either. Just a suggestion. Some of us really appreciate the coverage, as we don’t get out as much as we could.
Yes, I have tried the 3/4 shot to get a picture of a nice car with what I recognized as the wrong wheel. The problem from my perspective is that I actually spent hours taking pictures of both ones I personally liked as well as some that had no real interest to me.........but knew would be of interest to others. Then a lot more time downloading and sorting through them to make them available to others. The problem for me was that 2 of the pictures were deemed to be unacceptable.............so ALL were deleted. Moderators can delete individual pictures but apparently that is more time consuming than just deleting the whole post. So from my perspective, I wasted hours of my time for nothing. If it had just been deletion of the individual offending pictures, I would be fine with that...........but I will still take a couple hundred pictures next year for my own enjoyment and not worry about offending anyone or wasting time and effort. The younger generations are who will continue hot rodding into the future. Not encouraging them to interact and learn from us, not trying to find common ground does not bode well for hot rodding as we enjoy it. Sit down and talk to some of the younger people and they will amaze you with what and who they don't have a clue about. Ask them if they know who Don Garlits is..........or John Wayne......or even Monica Lewinski. Most don't even know what American Graffiti is or ever saw it. They can only learn if we try to bring them in rather than excluding them and ignoring them at events. We might even learn a few things ourselves.
The day Ed Roth died, I was working at a big automotive repair information company in editorial. This was a typical white collar job, but most all the 30 odd editors were car people. Not so much the other departments, total head count was ~200. There were 2 others in the building who knew who I was talking about... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Roth It was not a generational thing, it was just not a part of their sphere of knowledge.
I understand your frustration with pictures being deleted but just to play devil's advocate, the moderators have their hands full with OT stuff being posted every single day. Funny cars, billet stuff from one end to the other and so on. I know that @Moriarity will delete individual pictures and leave the acceptable ones. Try to find any angle that does not show the OT part or wheel, and take the picture then if need be, do what I do... crop the living shit out of it. I do like the pictures that were posted above.
Sure we can delete individual pictures, sometimes there are too many off topic images to do so. editing takes more time than deleting. a 3/4 shot that still shows a low profile tire and a 22 inch diameter wheel will get axed by me every time, saying you can't tell the difference between a cast and billet wheel is bullshit, all you have to ask yourself is were these wheels available in 1965? pretty simple. take all the off topic pics of ultra modern street rods that you want to, please do not post them here... thank you
Its not BS Moriarity...........maybe you can always tell but I can't.......and I sure don't know or recognize every wheel that was made in or before 1965. In fact, a lot of the accepted wheels today were never made in 1965. Many are clever updates or even new designs altogether. How do you tell a cast wheel made in 2020 from a cast wheel made in 1965 ? Apparently the Rocket brand didn't come into being until 2008. Cragar didn't make its first wheels until 1964/65 era and they were SS wheels. So any other Cragar wheel designs didn't originate until after that date. Here are the Cragars I bought to build my 32 Ford with. Legal or illegal on the Hamb. 15" Steel Wheel with an aluminum insert. Definitely not available in 1965. You think I'm just BSing you, but I'm telling you that I am not. Yes I don't like all the huge rims with skinny tires..........I think they look awful. But I look at a lot of wheels and say to myself....billet or not............and I'm not sure. So, I'm just going to avoid the problem in the future and only take pictures for myself..........then there is no controversy. Sorry that its come to that, but I'm NOT going to waste hours of my time just trying to provide info for others only to see it all deleted. Not what I want, just the way it is.
do whatever makes you happy, billet or cast, if it is a reproduction of a wheel that was made in the era then it is ok, the cragars you bought are copies of halibrands from the era making them ok... make sense??? the key is just don't post the 18 inch and larger and chances are you will be ok.....
come on man, you know as well as I do that there are exceptions to every rule, the key is they were pre 65...
