Countdown has begun in earnest! I've known about this move since last Dec - fought it as best I could until July (want to stay here!) - but my Uncle says it's time for me to move. So it's with mixed emotions we say goodbye to the UK & head out to NM.

Almost all my stuff is gone, sold all the rods/bikes over here, tomorrow the last little bits (like computer!) leave, & we fly out in one week. Hate to leave the UK & the great friends I've made over here, but anxious to get the move over with & get started again.

So, any Albuquerque HAMBers out there? Send me a PM & let me know what's going on. I'll be rolling into town late Oct w/my '40 Coupe. Internet/email access will be a bit dodgy for the next week or so, so bear with me.

Just a quick thanks to all the UK HAMBers who made my time over here very memorable. I've already got a date to be back here next summer for a Squadron reunion (early July), so have a good show near then, will ya?! ;) And if you guys ever want to drive Route 66, I live right off it in Tijeras - just east of Albuquerque - stop in for a cuppa! ;)

Farewell from this green and pleasant land - think you'll cope with the change in weather?

    Thanks, guys!

I dunno - it's been a very wet monsoon season this year! Probably more rain there than here!

Looking forward to it though - I'm up in the E. Mountains & early Nov it's highs in the upper 40s, lows just below freezing...

My "required" mountain winter 4x4 is an old Willys Wagon I'm picking up on the way out there! ;)

  10. Good luck with the move, the air cleaner top arrived ok

    cheers

Welcome to Albuquerque! You'll miss the color green. But all in all it's not too bad a place to be. At least cars don't rust while you're workin' on em!

There's enough green in the east mountains...not quite as green as here in the UK though. ;)

Ernie the area around Albuquerque is pretty, especially the Sandia Crest and the Sangre de Christo mountains up the road a piece are beautiful, but that area is on the doorstep to some of the most stupefyingly incredible scenery on the planet. I refer to the Colorado Plateau in general and the Canyonlands in particular. In large chunks of northern Arizona and virtually the entire southern half of Utah are thousands of square miles of red rock that has been rain and wind sculpted into an infinity of monstrous tortured shapes and exquisitely delicate details that are impossible to properly assign words to. Simply eye-searingly brain-fryingly awesome.

To those whose experience has been limited to the Grand Canyon itself, well, as far as i'm concerned it's a very minor part of the enormously larger and more complex grandeur that is the Colorado Plateau. Trust me on this. Get out there and see it first opportunity. You will not regret it.

And you wouldn't want to miss the coolio Moab cruise-in which is right in the middle of all that glory.

    Ernie,
I hope that you didn't sell those heads you had to wait so long for-Lol!. Have a safe trip, I'm sure that you will enjoy Albrq, NM. I cruised through there a coupe of times in my 34 Coupe & my 34 Roadster, straight down 66. If you make it out to So-Cal, look me up. I'll bet that your gonna miss that 34 C-dan though. To me it was a looker!

Now sitting on the floor with my laptop - still have DSL - at least for today.

    Thanks for all the words.

Those works of art called Cyclone heads were packed by me - not the movers. Wrapped in 4" of foam & put in a footlocker before the movers even saw them.

I've lived in Albuq for a short while before back in '96 - about 6 mo during the summer there & manage to get there for a week or so every year for some training.

Not too close to retirement - a little over 5 years to go. I had a plate for you, but actually had to use it last year! Long story. I did find a stock car flyer. Had all that stuff & it got buried - even packaged it up - then movers grabbed it. I'll make it right when I get back.

I will definitely miss the '34, but I wasn't going to be truly happy with it until I took it down to the frame & I just don't have the time for that right now. Hated to sell it, but I do have my '40 ;) So it's not like I won't have anything!

Long day today - deep breath - gotta run!

Well, welcome to the neighborhood. When you get here I'll go on the nickle tour with you and radshit. He knows more people than I do. If you can't hook up with him look me up. I work for myself so I have a very flexible schedule and can give you the penny tour. I sometimes do a little work out the tijeras way.
