Retrieved my chassis from our previous house. Since it is only a 1/2 roller, I unloaded using my two favorite tools, brute force and stupidity.
And as long as I'm sweating, what the hell, I'll throw the newest cab on for shits and grins. Same tools..
Great use of the "Strap" method. Use to see guys moving Refrigerators by themselves using a strap like yours.
I've been pecking at the truck, but tonight I screwed up the intestinal fortitude and srarted welding up holes in the firewall. Mind you, I have near zero body working experience, which is why I bought this cab in the first place. Didn't do too bad, but the .025 Lincoln ER70 wire I'm using is harder than Dicks hatband to grind.
Your pictures of mounting/moving the cab could of been of me..working alone is a matter of getting it done with whatever means possible. You're making some good progress. Thanks for sharing your build.
They make another wire that’s called easy grind I think it’s ER70-S2 I I may be wrong on the # check your welding supply. Also are you using a copper back up bar
They sell magnetic copper back up bars. I would put it on the engine side of the firewall and weld from the back side under the dash so you would have much less grinding to do.
This is what I use. Usually available from Horrible Freight or Northern Tool or body shop supply houses.
I also use copper strips off buss bars. Just clamp it tight and weld from the back side. Try a few practice pieces to get the hang of bit and then do your repair, let me know how it works for you. I have been doing this shit for over 60 years and was taught by a man who did body work during the Great Depression and WWII when you had to fix everything. Frank
Super nice pickup project there. '40's are about king of the heap on old pickups! Watching as this one progresses. Stick with it and post often.
I built my own seat riser out of steel tube. Its MUCH lower than stock. I'll be using a aluminum sheet seat back with dense thick foam will make my 40 much more comfortable for a modern height and weight person...I see you've been busy!
I've been wondering...Maybe if I use a From just above the beltline down and about 2 1/2" back from the door mating edge
I was looking through your build thread and glad to see you are making progress! I finally sold the front clip and the guy was stunned when he got here and saw how nice it was.
Long overdue update. After shoulder surgery and PT, I decided to start pecking away again. Ordered a front bed panel from Bruce Horkey. Nice piece. Got it protected in etching primer
I was wondering where you went. It is sort of a strange juxtaposition (for lack of a better word) that we build hot rods to be strong, fast and good looking, while we get weaker, slower and less attractive. We fix their broken bits in exchange for our own. Stop manhandling that truck solo, heal up and get back to work. I'll be here watching and taking advil.
Glad to see you're back at it again. How'd everything go with your shoulder surgery? I may be looking at the same thing. Hopefully I'll find out soon.
Nice to see the update. I'm scheduled for total shoulder replacement of my left(dominant) this Fall, figure I've been working at about 25% potential the last 2 years.
Without getting too far OT, I had a completely torn rotator cuff repaired and a cartilidge-growth enhancing mesh cup placed in the socket. The result of years of agressive snow ski crashes. And subsiquent bull headed neglect. Pictures look like Im held together with bailing twine and deck screws. (If God had meant for Texans to ski, he would have made bullshit white) As I healed and recover use and function, it is suprising how much muscle groups in the shoulder had changed in response to the tear. LOTS of stretching. But range of motion and strength are much improved since the procedure in February
