Anyone have any photos of chopped 55-57 chevys or pontiacs? Or have any of yall chopped one? I want to see the 2dr post cars, as thats what Im thinking about cutting up... Dont care to see wagons, or trucks, because that doest help me at all... Thanks a ton in advance... And any pics of the back window area would be extra helpful.... Also, Im thinkin if I do mine, I would move the base of the back window up, and make a filler pannel for between the trunk and the rear window... Thanks, Cory
Come one, some of yall have to have something? Here is a current picture of mine, and one after about a 5-6" chop in "paint". I would only be chopping mine about 4".
Heres an old pic of my better halfs 56 4 dr. He moved the back window forward and filled it in. It worked out really well.
If I do chop mine, thats what Im going to do. Its a shame you can cut down the back glass, cause doing it like that would be perfect for that. Correct me if Im wrong, but the back glass cant be cut down, right? I could also use some advice on cutting down the windshield. I dont want to channel the windshield into the cowl. If I do cut down the windshiled, I know it would have to be laid back, or I might try to form one from lexan. Any ideas on or advice on either of these?
I chopped my 55 2 dr "150" wagon 3 inches....after it was done I was told to only chop it 2 inches....its easier to cut the glass, and less pressure on it when you install it.....stan (will post pics once I learn how)....still new at this.......stan
The back glass is a tempered glass, which means, you cant cut it, if you try, it will shatter into a bunch of very small pieces.Tempered is just what it says, its been tempered, in a heating process, which makes the glass very strong, but with a lot of stress, still in the glass, intentionally, so during a wreck, large chunks wont hit you and do some seriuos damage. As far as the windshield, its laminated safety glass, which is designed to crack, but not come apart easily, which helps keep you from being thrown out the front during an accident. It can be cut, but if you ask 6 people, you will get 6 different answers. I wont go into depth here, but if no one else, has the answer, p.m. me and I will try and help how ever I can. Hope this helps you some.
Hey stan...send me the pics and I can post them for you custmf100@aol.com I'm gettin ready to cut my 57 4 dr wagon tomorrow...I was going to do 3 inches...how bad does your glass fit?
smalltownspeed,there's some photos in this thread.xtralow http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43591&highlight=chopping+a+55+chevy
The amount of your "photochop" is too much to be aesthetically pleasing..... I suggest 2-1/2 frt and 3" rear....."Rock" the stock rear glass forwards and slide the windows' opening- FORWARDS... 2-3" [into the roof],removing a strip of metal there.... then rebuild the "tulip panel" at a slight angle downwards to the trunk lid.....
I love the look of these cars chopped, but it's easy to be too overzealous. Vic Edelbrock's 57 comes to mind when I think of a chop done to perfection. The lines on the tri 5s don't work well with a big chop like a merc or shoebox ford does, the chop needs to be much more subtle to be appropriate in my book. 1" in front, 3" in back would be ideal in my mind, almost mimicking the lines of a 55 crown victoria. It would get rid of the bubble look and high roofline that even plagues the hardtops. most would never even ntice it was cut, but for those that do, major props
theres a "street rod style" chopped 55 for sale on ebay right now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/cust...oryZ6160QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Its a 'glass car, when did they start doing THAT?
if you only want to do a mild chop 1 to 2 ", a hardtop screen is already lower and has the same profile on the bottom edge I think
