For those that have never been to this place, its one of the coolest places I have ever had the privilege to visit.
I went several years ago to the annual gas up.
Some of the pictures of what this very cool place looks like.
    Have a great evening @squirrel.

I went there last year with a few people on a trip. Up to the rpm nationals. And they let us all in and let us park our cars and take pictures. 20220923_161638.jpg 20220923_161702.jpg

The Land Speed Racing hall of fame is there. Keith Turk is in the hall of fame, and this place is important to him...he's also the race director on Drag Week. So he encouraged those of us with cars that have been featured in Hot
Rod magazine to sign the magazines (they have a complete collection), like everyone has been doing for decades. He took this picture of me. I think it's quite an honor.

Glad you're having a good time. The pea soup at Andersen's is the best. FWIW, I raced against Jack Mendenhall in the '60s - '70s just up the road at Santa Maria. Heck of a competitor and a nice guy.

    Hello,

That sign is history. The Anderson Pea Soup place has been a stop over for all of the years our family has been going up and down the coastal road trips in our dad’s Buick sedans. My dad loved soups our mom used to make, but she stayed away from making thick Pea soup, due to the comparisons to this offering at the stop in Buellton. But, it was always a stop if it was lunch or dinner time.

Many years later, my wife’s parents moved to Santa Ynez, just down Highway 246 Eastward through the also quaint town of Solvang. Then just down the highway, Santa Ynez sits with its wide open spaces and solitude. That is until the huge casino came into play. By then, they had moved back to the OC and away from the now, heavy traffic flowing from Highway 246 to 101 and back. The lunches and dinners at Andersen's became a trickle due to the traffic.

It was the name on the sign, Bob Joehnck Automotive, that always catches my eyes. It is one of the famous stops and service centers back in Santa Barbara. They had a history with early hot rods in the area and racing in So Cal. But, they also took care of my son’s car for 4 years while he was attending the university just up the road in Goleta. It was a long way from home and he did not know of any car service centers in the area. Once serviced, he felt like it was just one of our favorites in our own hometown back in the South OC. Thanks…

When we visited my wife’s parents, it was just a short drive West to Buellton for some great soup and food. Yum!

    Note:

My wife and I visited the area prior to the pandemic. It was hard to see the old views in this part of the highway drive from Santa Barbara through Santa Ynez/Solvang and then on to Buellton. The development is everywhere and it is no longer, a quaint little area with country living near the once gathering places all around. The traffic is not good. YRMV

    Have a safe-trouble free roadtrip !!!

    thanks for the story!

The name caught my eye too, just from the stuff I've read over the decades about his efforts. And this intake at the museum...priceless!

  26. I’m following death week on Baileys channel, it looks like @squirrel is having a blast. I can’t say I’m jealous often but I’m definitely jealous of the fun Jim is having.

Funny you bring up the mountain. My Nephew said he needed a beer after that.

^^^^^ Just received a text up date. Did not know about this. It wasn’t the mountain so much, he stop because he thought he was having brake fading issues. While stopped he noticed brake pedal was off to one side. He went to kick it over the other way and the pedal fell off. o_O . What’s the name of this run again?
