...apparently you missed the part about being low on funds...trust me, there is nothing inexpensive about a Hemi project.
For something fun and easy to drive go for the GM cubic inches, 455 Buick, Olds, Poncho or 472-500 Cad. Probably cheaper than a 460 or FE and twice the tq of the 327.

327 all the way. A straight axle car should have some muscle behind it, and I have zero concern for brand loyalty in one. You already have it and it's ready to go, why isn't it in yet?

While the two posts above outline some good options, the OP did mention cost as a consideration. Speed parts for the 460 or even the 455 Buick are much more expensive. Heck, on my own 455 even replacing the oil pump gears and harmonic balancer were way more expensive than similar repairs on a SBC. For ease of parts availability and cost, you can't beat the 327.

I agree. Got a few things on local Craigslist and it seems like nobody is buying anything.

Is that Jim Reed’s car from Adam-12?

  15. I have 2 352 short blocks you can have…
Also some heads and a stock iron 4v intake
They are both good bore… could just ring and bearing, contrary to what others say they are not that expensive to build, just depends who you listen to.

I remember in '71-'72 a guy in Prineville Oregon put a flathead Ford V8 in a '55 Ford! Looked pretty factory too.
    6 volt as well.

That was a '54, IIRC. There was a thread here about 10 years back covering that car, it had been found and I don't remember what happened to it afterward.

Needs a hemi! But the prospects of getting a hemi on a budget leads me to believe it will get a 327, which is a great motor.

Despite my previous comment, I like this. Do what you can afford on the 352, put solid lifters in, and dress it out like the 360hp version. That mostly paint and decals and a Holley. The oem exhaust aren’t needed in a gasser, you’ll be building fenderwells anyway. Picture lifted from the net.

I'd like to suggest something completely different. A Ford 300 ci I-6. Put a top loader 4 speed behind it.

However the 327, being in your garage, is your best choice, IMHO.

This old Girl is next in line, 413 powered. In a convoluted way, a Mopar in a Mopar. The Ford is still in gathering stage. The bottom picture is what I have to work with for an engine for the Ford. There is 250 bucks there, well, 285 if you count the engine stand.
