Picked this up from my ex-girlfriend's dad last week...1930 Model A 2 door sedan...he boxed the frame and did a pretty decent job with that....but he did a junkyard Mustang II in front...And some of the most gross ladder bar brackets I've ever seen...

I've tried cutting the Mustang II off of it, and it's hopeless to do so without butchering up this frame, so I'm starting over and making a new frame. It'll be '40 Ford front end (suicide style) with split 'bones and a Ford 9 inch in back with hairpin radius rods.

that's a great start! man, why would you take a nice car like that and put that front end on it? Oh well, the most important part looks to be in great shape, keep us posted

If the price was right, and I guess it was, you made a good deal. Welcome to the A brotherhood.:D I don't care for the MII either. Good luck.:)

  4. I believe that you buying that car kinda pissed of the ex-girlfriend.

The look on her face was probably price-less?

CaddilacKid are you sure you can't find somebody with a plasma cutter to delicately slice off all the offending appendages. Hard to tell really but it might be easier than scrounging a new frame unless there are other aspects of it that you find objectionable.

Keepin this one somewhat simple...350 Chevy with a 3 or 4 speed...

Thanks for all of the thumbs ups guys...Yeah, it'll be considerably easier to start over by making my own frame...and my frames are alot stronger than a boxed model A frame...I start with 2 ten foot sticks of 2"x4" rectangular tube...1/4 inch wall thickness. That way, it's thick enough that when it comes time to do brake lines, fuel lines, etc, all I have to do is drill and tap the frame...saves alot of time and pain in the ass factor....

I'll keep you guys posted on it's progress...trying to do this one by mid October... :D

    Okay, so here's an update...

New frame's done except for steering box and column...and with a little luck that should be done tonight...

We made the frame out of 2"x4" rectangular tube...1/4" wall thickness. Pie cut the rails in front to taper like a stock model A frame. There's a 6 inch kick down that happens right behind the firewall....then straight to the rear where there's a 16 inch kick up....this thing's on the freakin ground.... :) :)

Trans mount and x member are made out of stainless. Motor mount plates for the Hurst motor mount are made out of 1/2" stainless plate. Rear ladder bars are made of stainless.

The body's next! Its already got a 4 inch channel job....and I think it looks pretty mean, so I'm just gonna redo some of the channel in the car that needs to be redone, put the patch panels in in, the floor, the roof and so on and so forth....Wadda you guys think?

It looks like it's sitting about 2" to low in the back. Is the channel job straight?

  15. Whoa Steverino! That tudor rules. Please tell me it's gonna have a Cad motor.

Any news on that top secret swap car?

2"X4"X1/4" tubing? Geez that's some stout stuff---do a bridge girder proud. Doesn't look that thick in the pic.

Thanks for the props guys...it looks like it's sitting too high in the front by an inch because it is right now...that's a bare block sittin up front...no crank, pistons, intake, carb, radiator, etc...that front'll be coming down just fine when all of that added weight goes on there
yeah, the 1/4" wall is some pretty stout stuff, but I do it that way so as to never worry about the frame strength ever again, and you can drill and tap it easy as hell...I'm off now to go get the roof back on! I'll be updating this soon....

Here's what I got done last night...Roof update! The guy that I got the car from screwed up the chop he did by chopping the doors too much...so to fix the problem, I chopped an inch out of the roof...The first five shots are the car before the chop...and the last four are the end result before doing any welding...
