Hey guys, I want to confirm that a 1950-54 chevy closed driveline w/a powrglide rear end came with 3:55 gears. I am looking to keep my car as original as possible and want to keep the closed driveline. It currently has 4:11 gears with a 3 on the tree. Gears are to low for our current freeways. Looking for one of these rear ends as it is a simple swap. Any help on this front would be greatly appreciated. Want to Cruze to some new spots to share the car with others. Thanks
To be sure, and if you have the rear out of a car, turn one axle one revolution and count the number of times the end of the drive shaft turns. It should be about 3 & 1/2 turns.
yup. powerglide rears are 3.55, I swapped one from a PG car into my 52 chev that had a 3 speed and 4.11's made quite a difference and the pumpkin torque tube assy was a direct fit. I wonder if your 1947 wagon has the same length torque tube as a 49-54???
Taking this one step further; can a passenger car diff bolt into a (50) 3100 1/2 ton truck? If not, what are the obstacles? Thanks, Rich
