1952-59 Ford Sticky window...

Hey guys. Anyone have experience freeing up a driver-side crank roll-up window on a 55 Ford? Yes, it goes up and down, but with a lot of effort. How big of a job is it to gain access to the window mechanism to give it a good lube? (Which I'm hoping is all it needs.)
Yes, I have a shop manual, but I just want to know what I'm getting myself into. (Tools, time, etc.) Winter is a-comin'!

Not that bad to get inside of the door. The door panel must be removed which entails removing the upper trim molding and the window and door handles. The handles require a special tool (inexpensive).

Working inside the door is not a piece of cake but doable. Just have to have patience

 

Maybe this will help. A pic of my '54 window mechanism which is very similar to a '55.

 

Most of the time the cause is a broken roller. Or someone used the wrong lube. It mixes with the old stuff and solidifies.

One picture is worth a thousand words...

 

It's about 8 screws, door handle and window handle, door pull and remove the panel. Then you have to undo the regulator bolts and wiggle the window off the tracks and drop the regulator. If the access hole is big enough you can pull the regulator and leave the window in.

Might as well change the rollers and regress while you are there.

Sometimes the hard part is removing the door handles. And using a trim flat tool to remove the door panel without breaking it.

Worth it for smooth rolling windows though.
