Hi all !!! just curious about the vintage "STOP" lamp that were offered as accessories from many catalogs . Wondering is there a time period these were correct ? Or were they offered for many decades up through the 50s/60s ? I have a 49 Packard and thought one may look cool (if I can find the right looking one ) but I don't wanna be hokey too !!
Not sure of its age but I purchased this one of ebay for a reasonable price then added a non traditional 4" led instead of the glow worm globe that was in it. It is a gl*** lens and I made up the mounting bracket for it. I really like the oval ones that dip down at the ends but they were way too expensive for me. Mine is in the rear gl*** of a 32 pickup
My 48 Plymouth business coupe started life as a police car. It had a spot light on the A pillar, and a single big red STOP light on the left rear fender. There were pictures on my car in the new for 1948 police car lineup for the village of Hinkley IL. That would mean they were at least available after WW II for the police. I believe they were found on may school busses before the war. Don't think they were very popular on hot rods until the 1990s rodent rods adapted them.
I totally ripped off @Hotrodmyk with my stop light. But, in pursuit of full disclosure, I did ask his blessing before I used it. We live in the same town, and I didn't want a rival turf war or anything. Had he objected I had a smaller one that matched my reverse light that I would have hung opposite it on the bumper. I'm glad he gave me his blessing. My gang is a bit on the old and feeble side. No one wants to see a bunch of grey hairs in C-paps, gl***es and hearing aids hitting each other with canes and walkers. Well, most people don't anyway. I'd actually enjoy it.
In college one semester, we had to start a manufacturing company and mine was called Bridgette's Widgets for Midgets. I got an A even though I ran the company out of money selling at a discount, fired everyone for less overhead, sold off my warehouses and equipment and had closed all my plants by the end of the term. The professor told us to make the most money by the end of the cl***, not make the most friends. That was his bad. I listen and obey.
