I posted a tech article on surplus aircraft latches that I used on the door of the Bellytank. Check it out, you might get some good ideas for your car.

Cool pix Bobby. How much does a bellytank sell for? How much for Alum and Steel?

Damn those are cool! And the look is perfect with the bellytank!

Stupid question time: I understand you'll have a pull tab on the push button, so you can release it from inside. It looks like you push the other button down to latch it? How will you latch it from inside, or is that what the pit crew is for?

Exactly... that's what the crew is for. And I'll be sure to tell them that just as soon as I find one. LOL

And thanks for the hand compliments... my manicurist will be quite pleased. Hahaha

Cool. My dad is using those for hood latches on his roadster. The NASCAR dudes use them for quarter windoes and stuff... (Richard Childress' shop is right across the street from my dad's.)

You have a knack for finding uses for the coolest shit. Can't wait to see the tank in person and running.

    Thanks rusty,

In case any of you are in the Burbank CA area, stop by a place called Luky's hardware on Burbank blvd. they have all sorts of cool military and aircraft surplus. That's where I got the latches.

That is the coolest idea I have seen in a long time!!!! What a great flush mount latch! And I guess that if its used on airplanes they hold pretty good.

The reborn Moby Dick '78 vette nitro funny car of Ezra Boggs uses a B52H pushbutton on his escape hatch. The pushbutton style is great for access panels. How about a gas filler panel? Fuse box cover? Early Ford cowling latch? All seem like great applications. Many different kinds of cool latches on aircraft. I pilfer mine whenever I get the chance.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the major US airlines, a handful of gov't agencies, the USAF and USN, many Asian and European airlines, and of course, the passengers and pilots. Without you, aircraft mechanics wouldn't have cool parts to use on their cars.

  27. Thanks for the info. The yards around here have really tightened up and will not hardley even answer the door anymore unless you want to spend a million dollars. Nice site as well.
