WAS WONDERING IF THE SPLINE ON THE F100 3 SPEED TRANS IS THE SAME ON A CHEVY CAST POWERGLIDE FROM THE LATE 50's 16 SPLINE OUT PUT SHAFT ?
With a 5 minute search on the internet the Powerglide is a 27 spline and the Ford pickups thru 56 are 16 by counting the slots in a new one from an early Ford supplier photo. But the internet and photos could be wrong,
OK now I am totally confused. I'm sure that back when we used the 55 or so Chevy 3 speed or power glide yoke on Ford transmissions and Ford yokes on the pre fine spline Chevy transmissions. The count on the Ford yoke from shoebox central sure looks to be 16 and the one listed by Denny's driveshafts who I would call a trustable source say 16 spline. The 27 spline fit the 64 and later aluminum powerglide and the "fine spline" three and 4 speeds.
From what I found. The early powerglide were 16 spline untill 1963 then went to 27 spline. My problem is I put a Jeep rearend 3:55 ratio in my f100. The drive shaft is now 1 1/2 inchs to short. I thought a longer yoke could be the quick fix but not sure of the spline count. I know early glides were 16 spline and they are 1 1/2 inchs longer than the ford. Was hoping the splines were the same. How easy it would be.
