Does anyone here have experience with Flowkooler water pumps? I’m thinking of just preparing the parts bin for the things that can/will go bad. This looks interesting and since it’s new and not a rebuild I figure it might be worth a shot, but of course I need to see if anyone else has experience with them. 83797C71-4AC1-4FF0-B496-937A8FB791E4.jpeg

I've used them on 2 Zips SBC pump risers. One worked great and is still on the motor, the other I took off because the motor ran hot so I went back to a stock pump.

Last few (4) builds with sbc powertrains used zips risers and flowkooler 6 cyl water pumps. Never had any cooling issues. I have kept a spare in the cupboard but have never needed it. :)

My 327 ran a little warm and I put a Flow Kooler pump on it. It wasn't any better or worse than the parts store pump I had on it before.

I like mine, solid 10 degrees cooler on gauge
For small ford, and has a heart of gold

  10. Success with any water pump depends on the whole picture- radiator sized correctly with good air flow, pump speed, engine compartment holding heat, etc. If an open impeller style, clearance to the back plate is also critical. FlowKooler makes a good pump. I have used a couple over the years with no issues. Just put one on a fresh 401 Buick.

I'd say that this ^ is the correct answer, you have to have all the pieces in places for any piece to work effectively.
You can have the best radiator and the best water pump made but if you don't have proper air flow when you need it you will have issues.
My 48 is one of the prime examples, I had a great radiator and the pump (oem) flowed good but I had too small and inefficiant of a fan that was way too low on the radiator and that 183 down the road became 210 and up at a stop light so fast it would make your head swim but dropped right back to 183 (180 thermostat) when I hit about 30.

some systems need coolant high flow, others not so much. in the past used to be a plate that you could rivet onto the pump impeller that would help coolant to flow better.

The 350 in my ‘37 Chev has been in service with a Flowcooler pump since 1993 with no problems and it cools well. The benefit of the Flowcooler style impeller is to reduce cavatation and works best when a coolant recovery setup is also used to minimize or eliminate air in the system.
