I spent the afternoon tearing apart my B powered A coupe to replace a noisy throw bearing...still has the stock trans / clutch.

Now that I have the bearing out it seems to be ok...spins fine, not loose or binding on the throw out hub.

Could the problem be the pilot bearing, clutch, or??? Any ideas?

Is this a new noise or has it been there? The A flywheel is different than the B flywheel , does the trans case have any contact marks?

I've had the coupe about 2 1/2 years, it's a new noise the had gotten worse the more the car was driven.

The flywheel is supposed to be a cut down V-8...was installed in the car before I got it. All the internal parts seem tight, no damage to the case.

doe sthe noise change when you push the pedel in?
I had a pilot bearing go bad and it took out the front bearing in the trans.
or it might have been the other way around.
do you feel any vibration in the shifter?

Yeah, the "chatter" gets louder when the clutch pedal is in...but the throw out bearing isn't binding or real loose.

i would say that when psi is applied to the face of the bearing it has a bad spot that it is running on i think that i would replace the bearing and the pilot bearing

Got the car tore apart last Saturday...doesn't seem to be the throw bearing, looks like it could a flywheel or clutch problem.
