I got a call from an old friend, he said his son wants to build a traditional hot rod, and do I have any parts to get the ball rolling. I said come on over, I got what you need. today they came over and we spent about four hours discussing his vision and digging out parts. they left with a good start and both smiling. he chose a '50 Olds engine with stick transmission and goodies to dress it up and give it a little more go and a nice clean A frame to put it in. he will be looking for a '28-'29 A Roadster body next
Often I imagine my grandson in my A Coupe. It seema like a big bridge to cross. He is still young, time will tell. Bless you for saving up spares, over the years. I was Nomadic and only kept one of dozens
The car I have been building for the last 8 years will become my grandson's when he turns 16 and has his drivers license. He knows it, and at 7 years old, he is just now starting to talk about "his" car. I have trouble pulling him away from those damned video games, but that is just the way of the world these days. I'm sure as he gets a little older I can get him out in the shop helping me. When I was his age, I was getting griped at by my mother for dragging home every old broke down lawn mower, mini bike, bicylce, whatever was mechanical to see if I could fix it. I think I was 8 the year I started getting toolboxes full of tools from Santa Claus.
All unloaded and wheels turning (in his mind anyway) sure am proud to see my son wanting to do this and working with his hands and mind to build his vision, and a huge thanks to Paul for his hospitality, knowledge and gracious help to get Emmett headed down this road.
Paul, .... so very proud of you brother, I just did the same thing for 3 - 30's year old guys, I put them in the Hot Rod scene very affordably as they would have never been able to do it in todays inflated world... makes my heart and soul very happy. Pass it on.
It is a good feeling to pass it on. Helping my son and a couple other youths. The cars are just a little OT. Hope an engine pic is ok.
My nephews were here yesterday helping swap out an oil tank in the basement, ugggh. During a parts run, we had some down time. They said let's go to the garage and see your hot rods. They're into Mopar musclecars currently but were intrigued and interested in the Model As. . . . Combined the two of them own 12 old cars including a 40 Ford pickup so the apples didn't fall too far away from the family tree.
just starting my first flathead build with my dad as well. We both have been into old cars forever (i'm 35, he's 70). i just had a son and hopefully he can see dad and grandpa working in the garage and get inspired too.
You couldn't find a better source for vintage Hotrod...there are others but @Paul has done the walk for sure... @1932Chrysler please share the journey...perhaps your son will do a build Thread...
Congrats! My wife and I are expecting a girl next month. She'll be spending a lot of time in the garage with dad and grandpa, hopefully building stuff rubs off.
I've got a bunch of stuff up here in Skagit Valley when he is ready for more parts. I'll keep an eye out for a body too.
Bravo @Paul and @Hitchhiker ! The future of hot rodding is safe, as long as good folks like you all here on the H.A.M.B., are open minded and are willing to help the younger generation !
This kid is going to be alright. He's got grease on his hands and clothes, and he's got you behind him. He's gonna be just fine. Good job, Dad. You too, Paul.
Wow, that's great Paul, what a friend you would be to have. I walked Hershey for a few days to get a set of those valve covers let alone the whole engine. Good on you. Cheers Mike.
