Hoping to find someone who has installed a Limeworks steering wheel and can tell me what I am doing wrong. This wheel is second hand with no instructions. I assumed the wire running in the steering shaft would attach to the horn button and activate the horn when pressed. As you can see from the picture, when I wire it as stated, the circuit is complete as soon as I attach the horn button to the wheel and the horn sounds. Is there supposed to be an isolator somewhere in the mix to prevent the horn from activating until the horn button is pressed?

I think there is supposed to be a little piece that goes in the center of the steering shaft that the wire attaches to. Then when you depress the horn button it touches the center piece completing the ground for the horn. It won't work the way you have it unless you like the horn blowing all the time.

I always use the '40-'47 pick up horn wire and metal cup, it goes over the Hex nut and the spring pictured seats on the shoulder. The "cup" has a spring loaded brass contact that the horn butten grounds out on and the horn relay does the rest. Sorry I don't have a picture to show you.

^^^ this--wire is supposed to have a contact that sits at end of column then metal on horn button contacts to ground/blow horn--I have a wire somewhere with the correct contact--will look-look em up Carpenter and others show them

Wonder where I can get just the contact wire. $50 is a little steep for a wire and a spring.

302 GMC thanks for the response the wire in my picture comes from the ground pin on the relay. The horn works fine it’s just the wiring at the button that had me lost.

Is that actually a horn button or just a cover/ cap? As it is it appears that the locating lugs go straight to earth and the wire is connected directly to the lug plate. I'm not seeing anything that makes the connection when required. I wouldn't be surprised if the wheel comes with a cover / cap but a horn push is an upgrade.

Thanks Phil, that looks like it might work plus it has a base to support the wire as it exits the steering shaft. Kind of surprised that no one has chimed in who has actually installed a Limeworks steering wheel like this.

  15. I used the Limeworks kit to connect horn on my Limeworks wheel and column. The little piece you need is very small.
If I remove my horn button, I may be able to get a photo, tomorrow.

Does your Limeworks column have the "brush" (horn mire housing) installed at the bottom? If not, you will definitely need the Limeworks horn kit.

Thanks pprather, my setup is an F1 steering column with the ground wire coming up through the steering shaft to the horn button. I would appreciate a pic of your wiring connection at the top of the steering shaft. From what I can see of the Limeworks horn kit I can't see what supports the spring connector at the top of the steering shaft.

With the way other drivers are these days, it may be necessary.

The Carpenter piece is what you need. Its the easy way to get the job done. The wire exits the steering box at the bottom thru the existing end plate.

  19. This is the top piece of the Limeworks horn kit:
    https://www.limeworksspeedshop.com/Retro-Horn-Kit-p/rhk1001.htm
The white plastic piece sits on the very top of the hollow column shaft.
Then the spring and horn button are installed.
When you push the horn button, it contacts the wire end, completing the horn ground circuit.
    I hope this helps.

  20. @Dak Rat confirms that the Carpenter piece should work.

Thanks pprather, your picture didn't come through. I'll call Limeworks this morning and see if they will sell me just the wire and contact switch. I don't need their shaft bushing and contact since my ground wire is already in my steering column.

The $50 is for the full kit. The wire with the plastic bush is also listed separately for $15 or so.
