Picked up a set of these original ‘42-‘48 Buick Tail Lights at a swap meet this past weekend. After a quick Google search for the few missing pieces, the pricing I’m seeing for another OG set is astronomical. $1,200+

Can anyone here help me get an idea if those asking prices are accurate?

  2. I bid $100.
But ive seen crazy prices on tail lights.
I’ve been looking for taillights for my 51 merc.
I’m guess I’m should have started looking 20 years ago.

Don’t know if those E-bay guys get those prices.

There's been several different sets of taillights I've followed on ebay the last 6 months trying to get different ideas for my 31 tudor.

I've noticed a few that have been on there the entire 6 months with no one even watching them.

That's the thing about ebay, just because they're asking X amount of dollars doesn't mean they are going to get it.

I've followed several things on there and after a couple months I will contact the sellers after 3 or so months and offer a reasonable amount and most sellers will accept my offers....

  4. $1200 may not be out of the ballpark depending on what was done to them. Chroming, polishing the lenses, re-building the sockets, etc. all adds up. If a NOS pair in primo shape, maybe a little high. I have several 1940 ones, but they are different. Looks like all you need are the taillight sockets, which may be the same.

    Appreciate the feedback everyone.

Definitely agree with you @lostone . Just because they're asking that on Ebay, doesn't allows mean they're getting it.

I'll throw them up for sale in the classfields section and see if they get any hits.

Agreed - Picked up some generic universal sockets from the auto store down the road yesterday. Thankfully the fit was spot on.

In the past year I've sold 2 sets here.. First set was extra nice, decent buckets, with good lenses & exl't chrome - $250.
Other set had rotted buckets, only decent chrome, & foggy lenses - $150.
    No sockets for either.
    All parties were satisfied ....

Also, these are used only on 50 & 70 series Buicks - 40 series are completely different.

Good to know! I'm assuming both of your sets sold were all original?

This should gave gone in the what’s it worth section. Not the Traditional Hot Rods section.
