Remember that sound and then, we cannot forget the introduction of the twin in 1959 at Riverside Raceway, either... The Tommy Ivo Twin was seen for the first time in Riverside Raceway during a huge drag race meet. It had black siding and sounded just as powerful as a few months later. The sound is original to his twin Buicks.

My brother and I knew Tommy Ivo was going to be at this meet, but had no idea twin side by side FED was going to show up. So, we left Long Beach in the dark to get to the gates when it opened. It was a “not to miss drag race” at that far away location. The best of the whole USA was going to be racing all day. (no freeways back then, just a winding road leading East to Riverside…)

The last version of the red single Buick powered FED had a 671 on top and ran well at Lion’s Dragstrip.

So, it was a surprise to see this twin side by side version sitting in the Riverside Raceway pits and then on the track.

The opponent? It was none other than another Kent Fuller chassis of the Wilkins Brothers Valley Home Services FED.

“Wilkins Brothers (Valley Home Service) Fuller-built dragster, at Lions. Kent Fuller built several of these "sled runner" roll bar dragsters before going to his classic 3-point roll bar. This car got cut in half at San Fernando when the flywheel departed and landed on the roof of a nearby church, disrupting the Sunday services.”
