Hey guys I tried ñooking around but I haven't seen a measurement for drive shafts.
    I found this website

    https://www.southwestspeed.com/?sec...MIroLOis-TgAMVxhKtBh2sSgbKEAQYASABEgJbdfD_BwE

They'll build a 3" aluminum driveshaft for $350. Which sounds like a good deal to me.

Where I live there is no drive shaft shop nearby and I don't really want to tow it 30 to 40 miles each way. Plus I'm not sure they can beat 350 in socal. They say to measure from the bell housing to the rear end flange. I measured 61 in on my vehicle I feel that seems so dang long. Anybody by chance have a measurement for that?

    Thanks!

My 59 Ranchero is 60”. However since the rear suspension is lowered 2”, stock length could be a little bit more than 60”

Driveshaft out of an '82-'86 Crown Vic is the perfect length. The front yoke slides right into an AOD and a NEAPCO 2-0291 U-joint will connect it to the stock rearend. Driveshafts run $50 at Pick-N-Pull.

Dennysdriveshaft website has a good form to use in measuring driveshaft lengths. They also ship driveshafts and have fair pricing

Ed Moore Drive Lines 456 S Sierra Way, San Bernardino, CA (909) 888-9859. He made the drive shafts for my Fairlane and my F100. Good Price and product.

Our local lkq doesn't have many of any pre 90s vehicles. I keep a eye out when I can.

I'll look into dennys thank you!

I would love to take to a shop but San Bernardino is about 1.5 hours away. I'll give them a call though

The best in the Inland Empire bar none. Perris Auto Speedway go to guy. I took all the measurements he asked.
It’s best if you have the trans yoke which you can get from any of the suppliers like Summit, Jegs etc . He will tell you how far from bottom to place it, then measure from the center of the front u to the center of the back u then he will make it for you to come and pick up.

They did the shaft for my '54 Ranch Wagon with a 302/AOD combo. Measured according to their directions. Fit perfectly. Fair price and reasonable turn around. Highly recommend them.

Only to support the "an oem driveshaft can work" discussion, my '57 short wheelbase Custom with a 4.6 dohc and 4R70w ****** out of a '95 Mark VIII uses the unaltered aluminum Mark VIII driveshaft. I did change the 9" pinion yoke to a 1" taller hd version, and a conversion rear u joint. If I remember correctly, I just had to buy a ujoint with different caps to adapt the Mark VIII ujoint to the 9" yoke.

The car in his avatar is a '54 mainline. The driveshaft info is in post #74 in the FAQ Sticky. I used that info when I went to the junkyard to grab a driveshaft for my '54 with 5.0/AOD and stock rearend. Fit perfectly!
