Why are brake boosters mounted at an angle and non assist square to the firewall?

Sure , it has to do with the pedal ratio. Manual brakes use the top hole in the pedal, power brakes need the have the hole lower in the pedal to have the right ratio. Lowering the pivot point now makes the push rod sit at an angle so they angled the booster to keep the push rod parallel.

Put the rod in the top hole, use a 7/8” master cylinder and remove the ugly vacuum can from the firewall. IMG_3484.jpeg
