so how do i even go about finding my father's favorite car from just before i was born? i don't have any pictures, and frankly, i don't think it would look the same now anyway. are there ways i could research the title to get a vin and then research that? any ideas? i would like to find it instead of another one like it in the hopes of restoring it and giving it to him. most of us probably take our fathers for granted and don't ever really say thank you. this is how i would like to. help?...
well, get some pics...start posting them stating you're looking for it...drop a line to a few mags...they usually post letters like that....that'd be a start...if you're near where he use to live...long shot, but who knows..it may be in the area...Best of luck....I'm lucky My pops still has his firt few cars..haha, I just gotta sneak them away..haha
If it's the kind of car one of the "specialty car" insurance companies would be insuring they might have it on record. I read that in a magazine, the Ins guys have the best records in one file of old cars there is.
hey doc, do you suppose they would still have records after almost 40 years? that's a damned good start, though. thank you.
If you can get a vin, I'll run it for you and get the current owner. I have to run vins by state. So I need to know what state you believe the car is in. However if the car comes up stolen, I could get my ass in a sling...
What kind of car? There are these internet thingys called message boards (I know, I'm a smart ass ) for just about everything you can imagine. A couple of years ago I found one of my dad's old cars just by asking owner's groups and clubs about it. My search was made easier since the car was a 1950 AC 2-litre Saloon... not many around. He sold it at Hershey in the early '70s, I found it 30 years later, racing in England.
Just curious, how are you able to do this. I wish I could do it for potential purchases that dont have titles. Gary
