Rebuilding any oddball engine gets a lot more expensive than finding a running SBC. Even an intake is more expensive.

If you can't see them rodded, check out these cool examples. The first one was first customized by the original owner in the 50's.

Definitely. Bird of Prey got me dreaming several years ago, but I must say the black 55 tickles my fancy too.

This thread rekindled that hot rod baby bird dream that I'll very likely never realize.

Then there’s the possible “buy and flip” aspect. Buy a classic car that no one thinks you should modify. Go to a restoration site, ask what it would take to put a “x” engine into the car.
Someone would just HAVE to save it so blasphemy is not committed. ;)

Yes, not all my screws are tight.
    Carry on.

It takes a lot of skill to turn a $7500 car into a $3500 car with a wrong engine swap.
But as they say “it’s your car…blah blah blah…”

Taking on a Baby Bird that is in need of restoration of any type is a sign of loose hardware. That said I am certain I don't have any screws loose, they fell out a long time ago

People have been rodding t birds since they came out. I have seen hemi birds, sbc birds, f.e birds, even the dreaded ls bird. I have a chopped 55 tbird that has been a racecar since it was new. Story has it that it got wrecked on a test drive and it has been a hotrod ever since. It has a twin supercharged alcohol injected 312 in it, but I have flirted with the idea of building a nice sbc street motor to put in it and run it around town.

Darryl Starbird wasn't afraid of modifying a 56 Tbird. Nobody should be afraid to modify a car.... predicta.jpg

I was just surfing my local craigslist doing my normal search by year with no title and was utterly amazed by how many baby birds are for sale when I punch in 1955 56 0r7.... Not all that pricey even.

Seems all the old folks who like them, are dead or dying. Sad.

My guess is that with the right pan you can put the 350 in the little bird with no cutting or hacking of the bird. That isn't going to happen with most late model Ford engines. Hell buy a pair of those
Adapters that bolt Ford small block valve covers on Chevy small blocks and get some "Cobra powered by Ford valve covers and 90% of the mouth breathers and 50% of the Ford in a Ford or I'll cry guys on here won't know the difference. Make adapters to put Y block valve covers on the Chebby and that raises to 75 %. OOPS those adapers are a bit spendy

^^^^ Why hide what’s in it? why spend money to try and please others?

It’s really not matter since the car was sold, other than the ensuing discussion.

IMG_1005.jpeg Here is a pic of the car, the real eye candy is under the hood. I will dig around and see if I have a motor pic.

Dropped a SBF in a '57 T-Bird for a customer a few years back. Couldn't believe how low and far back the motor sat and how much room there actually was in the engine compartment. I thought it was going to be a shoe-horn involved nightmare but turned out to be a piece of cake. Used a Fat Man stub and cut the center out of the X-member, so that definetely helped. The entire motor was behind the front axle centerline and it sat low in the chassis. Definetely made me respect the Baby Birds as far as a foundation goes for a decent classic sports car. I’m all for the use what you have fun factor . My vote is nothing but an FE . My Buddy had one years ago , 427 Dual Quad, 4 speed . It was a terror . When he purchased the car it was a 348 , single 4 barrel , cast iron T10 . Same trans he ran behind the Ford . He recently researched the the trans numbers 57 Vette . He says the trans is worth more to today than he paid for the car x 5 .
