    Hello,

An idea from another thread by @tjm73 . The 32 sedan he got is pretty outstanding. But, for a former owner of a Flathead powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery and the lack of power from the motor gave us limited options when doing our long distance road trips. Going up our local mountain roads is/was never going to happen unless I wanted to climb in first gear at a snail’s pace.

Going on longer road trips down Coast Highway to San Diego surf spots and the always active South Orange County spots was on our itinerary from the beginning of our surf journeys. Long Beach to Newport Beach was fairly flatland along the coast. So, our Flathead ran fine and got us to various spots
along the coast. Until the road takes a steep uphill grade and there are some cars cluttering up each lane. then, it is downshift to 2nd and possibly 1st to allow us to go up the slope to the top. (El Morro Beach)

    Sample:

When we got to the Dana Point/Capistrano cliff region, there were several surf spots that not many used, due to the popularity of the famous Doheny Beach and other Dana Point surf beaches. But, we wanted to see the panoramic view of the coast line to check out the sights from an advantage point up on the tall cliffs that ran from the railroad tracks down to Northern San Clemente.

There are homes along the shore, a short funky pier and several little surf breaks that no one but the residents knew about due to the community homes and the railroad usually blocking the views from the highway. So, a viewpoint was high up on top of the cliff side that gave us almost a 180+ degree view of the coastline (and breaking surf spots) at this particular area along the coast.

But, we knew several barriers that we had to overcome or just struggle with as far as necessary road power when needed. In order to get to the top of the coastal cliff, there was a road that was directly aimed at one of the view points. If we made it, then a flurry of open view spots were able to be accessed for our needs.

It was the steep hill climb from the lower level Coast Highway that was the road blockage for us. We did get to the top, but only after a slow grind in first gear. If there were any folks behind us, it was tempting to pass us up as we crept uphill. But it was a single lane for everyone. Usually it was not geared for a running start, so it was first gear only.

Another thread gave me an idea that taking such a presentable, in great shape old car that is one of the icons of the Ford lineup of models, should be given a chance to power up any slope or long hill climb on any roads. So, a change was an option and the draw was to create a modifying starting point for an unusual hot rod. Although, it will be difficult to see a pristine body modified to create a one of a kind custom hot rod. Individuality is the key and perhaps, a goal…

So, as the drawing at the top presents, it is a smooth side custom 32 Ford Sedan Delivery that looks like it should be from the factory. Most, if not all 32 sedan delivery’s from the factory had a look of a two door sedan with the rear side windows covered up as an extra way to use the side body panel from normal sedans. It did not have a smooth side panel like those on a 40 Ford Sedan Delivery or others.

The project would create a smooth side panel to fit the rear panel and to make the rear door open as usual. Knowing the 32 sedan delivery hot rods are a super rare version, here is a custom project like the show cars of the old days, where nothing is out of reach.

    Not Hemi under glass, but...

All in time for a Thanksgiving super meal rolled up on its own ramp inside the rear private section of a rare, custom 1932 Sedan Delivery, with SBC power. To go a step farther, a slight chop and rake, would lower the top to create a better proportion of a cool sleek custom hot rod, with enough power to enjoy the current road trips… YRMV

  6. Good Morning. Yeah Jnaki, as cool as a 32 Ford delivery is. I think they needed a little longer wheel base like the 33s, and 34's. They would be a little more practial. I can sleep in mine. 20161013_202458.jpg

I am in the hospital awaiting surgery to remove a pissed off appendix, I’m bored and playing with my phone. Found some app that lets you paint with your finger. Add a couple OxyContin to the mix and here is my blown, Flathead roadster

  11. Bandit pray'n that your surgery goes great. Love your roadster sketch with the 3 Stromberg 97's. If the OxyContin doesn't work for ya, try some model car glue it's traditional. 20160917_233252.jpg
